- Gastro in Kids: What Parents Need to Know (Questions & Answers)
May 12, 2026 · original
When your child suddenly starts vomiting or has diarrhoea, it can be stressful and overwhelming — especially in the middle of the night. Gastroenteritis (“gastro”) is very common in children, but knowing what signs to watch for and when to seek medical advice can make a big difference. At 13SICK , our after-hours doctors regularly help families manage gastro symptoms in children through face-to face home doctor consultations where a doctor is rostered in the area, and bulk billed telehealth consultations for Medicare card holders when a face-to-face doctor is not available. What is gastro? Gastroenteritis, commonly called “gastro,” is an infection of the stomach and intestines. It is usually caused by a virus, but can sometimes be caused by bacteria or food poisoning. Children with gastro may experience: Vomiting Diarrhoea Stomach cramps or pain Fever Nausea Tiredness or lethargy Loss of - Thank You for Completing Our Practice Feedback Surveys
May 8, 2026 · original
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our patients across Australia who recently completed our practice feedback surveys. Your responses are incredibly valuable and help us continue improving the care and service we provide through our after-hours medical service. Across every state, we received thousands of thoughtful comments, suggestions, and ratings from patients who have used our service for telehealth consultations and home visits during the after-hours period. We are grateful for the time you took to share your experiences with us. One of the strongest themes from the survey responses was how much patients value having accessible after-hours healthcare available when regular GP clinics are closed. Many patients told us they appreciated being able to speak with a doctor late at night, on weekends, or on public holidays without needing to visit an emergency departm - 13SICK Aged Care Doctors available 24 hours a day over the Easter Weekend

Feb 13, 2024 · original
Sensory activities are a great way to teach your children about a number of different things – from numbers and letters, to colours and animals. They are also a fantastic way to let your child explore all of their senses, especially touch. In honour of national hearing awareness, we at 13SICK are pleased to share with you some of our favourite sensory activities that don’t depend on sound, so that everyone can have fun playing together, no matter who they are! DIY Kinetic Sand This one might be a little messy, but it’s super fun, and a great way to teach children about shapes and let their imagination run wild! The best part is, it’s less expensive than store-bought kinetic sand, and you know exactly what’s inside it – so no more worrying about unnecessary ingredients. Hearing loss can be debilitating – you can lose the ability to communicate with friends and family, find it harder to access certain services, and feel your self-confidence fall drastically. It’s important to let your loved one with hearing loss know that they are supported, and that you are actively working to make their environment a safe space for communication and assistance, no matter how long it may take. Here are a few top tips to help out the loved one in your life who might be suffering from hearing difficulties: 1. Face the person directly If you are aiming to communicate with someone who has a hearing impairment, make sure you position yourself in good lighting, and stay on the same level, directly facing the person. It’s best to have the light on your face if you are speaking, so that the listener can easily see you. Don’t talk from another room, or facing away from the liste - Hearing Loss – What is it?

As an accredited Medical Deputising Service, we are tasked with providing continuity of care to patients in the absence of their normal GP. This is especially important for residents of Aged Care Facilities, due to their often complex health issues and the need to communicate clearly across the clinical team that attend each resident. The introduction of Medi-Map, the BESTmed/BESTdoctor suite and other similar systems, places a significant and additional administrative burden on our doctors, who already currently complete statutory reports for the resident’s regular GP along with entering electronic progress notes at a majority of the sites that we attend. Medi-Map is one of several electronic prescribing and medication charting tools now being encountered by our doctors at an increasing number of Aged Care facilities. The platform has been adopted by a large number of sites in South Aus - Agedcare Facility – Placing a Booking for an After-Hours Doctor

We would encourage early booking where an after-hours doctor is required and the resident’s regular GP is unavailable. Fax-In Bookings Many facilities find it easiest to request an after-hours doctor by fax. Bookings made by fax can be accepted earlier in the day and a doctor can be requested for several residents at the same time.
