    A new cafe near LSU’s campus adds something unique to Baton Rouge’s matcha scene. Twistella Cafe opened Sept. 1 at 630 Arlington Creek Center Blvd., Ste. D. The shop’s owner, Abdul Rahman Obeh, began planning to open his own business shortly after moving to the United States almost two years ago. Obeh worked as a barista when he lived in the Middle East and knew he wanted to open his own cafe in America. The owner has a deep love for coffee, but also wants to share matcha, desserts and Italian sodas with the community. Twistella’s matcha is imported from Japan. Obeh says he wanted to share a more authentic flavor with his customers, since he hasn’t been able to find it since moving to Baton Rouge. “All the matcha here in the market is commercial matcha.     The first time Megan Howard sold ice cream to the public, she didn’t have much of a setup. She borrowed a tent and table from her brother, used a freezer from the kitchen she was renting and showed up to Hot Art Cool Nights with her gourmet, small-batch ice cream. “The only thing that I really had that was wholeheartedly mine was my ice cream, my recipes,” Howard says. Now, she’s working to turn her business Milk’d into something bigger. Howard started Milk’d after years of baking and working in restaurant kitchens.     Rouge House , a thrift shop located off Brightside Drive, is more than just a second-hand retailer. Founded by artist Samantha Abshire in mid-2024, Rouge House is a conglomeration of parts, including a thrift store, vintage retailer, community closet and space for small artists to sell their work. The store works to take old articles of clothing and breathe new life into them in an effort to break the cycle of waste.
