Since a major editor panel interface redesign in late April, we've been busy working on a big batch of features focused on getting your own content into 3DStreet: your own 3D models, your own photos and videos turned into 3D, and scenes you capture in AR on your phone. We've also been putting a lot of work into reliability, especially for Managed Streets (procedural street generation), which we're planning to bring out of beta later this summer. Here's what's new. Custom 3D Asset Uploads One of our most-requested features is here: you can now upload your own 3D models. Drag and drop a glTF / GLB file straight into the viewport and place it in your scene, with no separate conversion step or need to host the file elsewhere anymore. We just released one of our biggest changes to 3DStreet's user interface design in a long time -- the 3DStreet editor has a majorly refreshed side-panel layout. This redesign was driven by user research led by Andrea Maravić as UX research lead, alongside the broader University of Cincinnati team, and design work from product designer Daria Dombrovska . We're lucky to have a community of users generous enough to tell us what's working and what isn't, and we want to keep building 3DStreet around what we hear. Since our last product update in February, we've been focused on one of the most-requested editor features, a major round of AI model upgrades, and a set of performance improvements that make the app noticeably faster to use. Here's what's new. Layer Reordering in the Scene Graph This has been one of our most-requested features: you can now drag and drop layers above and below managed streets in the scene graph panel. Previously, layers were locked in their creation order, which made it difficult to organize complex scenes. Introduction I got involved with this project through my ongoing work with Dr. Marc Schlossberg at the University of Oregon, where I’ve been assisting him in exploring how Augmented Reality can improve street safety in Eugene, Oregon.
