Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana passed the order on Friday after the Dhaka Detective Branch (DB) sought custody for further interrogation. According to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police prosecution division, Rabiul was taken into custody at around 3am on Tuesday from Sector 11 in Uttara, Dhaka. He was later formally arrested under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. KARACHI: Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has said women seeking to benefit from the provincial government’s electric scooter scheme must possess a permanent driving licence and successfully complete a driving test. Speaking to the media, Memon clarified that applicants holding only learner permits would not qualify for the scheme. He said the initiative had also encouraged a significant increase in the number of women applying for driving licences across the province. According to the minister, more than 50,000 women have now applied for licences, compared with only 154 women who held valid licences when the electric scooter programme was launched. “If 50,000 women have to be provided electric scooters, the Sindh government will provide them,” Memon said. However, he stressed that scooters would only be handed over to applicants who possessed permanent licences and had clear

The offer came a day after the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) postponed its planned Islamabad march from September 27 to October 4. Addressing senior journalists in Peshawar on Saturday, Afridi said the government should not wait for the protest to take place before initiating negotiations. “If the federal government wants to resolve the issue within seven days, it should do so through mutual understanding,” he said. The chief minister questioned the rationale behind holding talks only after the march, asking why negotiations could not begin beforehand. “Our objective is to resolve the issue,” Afridi said. He explained that the PTI’s political committee had decided to provide the government addition

The prosecution informed the court that the seven accused had previously been declared absconders and surrendered following the announcement of the verdict.
