  10. Four ABC Members Help Lead Landmark NIH Trial Targeting a Disease That Disproportionately Affects Black Women

    ABC members Demilade Adedinsewo, MD, MPH; Jeffrey Alexis, MD; Deborah L. Crabbe, MD; and Joyce Njoroge, MD are among the researchers contributing to REBIRTH — a landmark NIH-funded clinical trial investigating a potential new treatment for peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM). PPCM is a rare but serious form of heart failure that occurs in the final month of pregnancy or within five months after giving birth, and it disproportionately affects Black women. Drs. Adedinsewo, Alexis, and Crabbe are serving as Principal Investigators at their respective sites — Mayo Clinic Florida in Jacksonville, the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York, and Temple Heart and Vascular Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
