ABOM ANNOUNCES first primary educational partner organizations and new director of learning pathways The American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM) is pleased to announce the first Primary Educational Partner (PEP) organizations approved to offer Core Obesity Medicine CME credit for physicians applying for obesity medicine certification through the Continuing Medical Education (CME) pathway. The Obesity Medicine Association, Columbia Cornell Obesity Medicine, the Harvard Blackburn Course in Obesity Medicine, and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery are now approved Primary Educational Partner (PEP) organizations and will offer required Core Obesity Medicine credits to physicians applying for the obesity medicine certification exam through the CME pathway. The changes are intended to enhance the education provided to candidates and elevate the CME pathway that supports physicians not only in passing the certification exam, but in their endeavors to confidently practice obesity medicine. NUMBER OF ABOM DIPLOMATES continues rapid growth The American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM) today announced that 2,000 physicians passed its board certification exam administered in October 2025, bringing the number of physicians certified in obesity medicine to more than 11,500 in the United States and Canada. The 2,000 new diplomates represent the largest number of diplomates certified in a single obesity medicine exam administration. ABOM diplomates come from a wide spectrum of medical disciplines and specialties with primary care physicians comprising the largest number of diplomates. A record 2,115 physicians applied to take the 2024 American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM) certification exam, which tests doctors for their competency in treating obesity. Physician candidates will take the test between October 14-26, 2024 at Pearson VUE computer-based testing centers throughout the United States and Canada.
