- Trestle advertiser solution launches in Europe
Feb 15, 2022 · original
Back in August 2021, Trestle launched in the United States as the first and only advertiser solution that enables advertisers to reach ad-filtering users at scale . Trestle was created by eyeo to improve the value exchange between users, publishers and advertisers and to address the lack of solutions in the market that sustainably focus on all three. The US was a good place to kickoff Trestle due to the growing number of ad-filtering users in the region. It provided valuable opportunities for advertisers to reach ad-filtering users and serve them consented ad formats without disrupting their online experience. But over the months, we saw an increasing demand and potential for Trestle to help even more advertisers outside the region, and reach millions of otherwise unreachable ad-filtering users. Following a successful Trestle launch in the US, we’re thrilled to announce that Trestle is n - Modernizing the Acceptable Ads Standard

Acceptable Ads has been around for a decade with a clear goal in mind: to continuously strive to improve the internet for all. In the past ten years, the criteria that lie within the Acceptable Ads Standard have evolved as a natural part of the changing online world, which never stagnates. Taking heed of audience feedback, researching developments online, searching for continued fairness and balance all require us to never rely on the status quo. And this is made possible through the independent Acceptable Ads Committee (AAC). The AAC was formed in 2017 and was granted full ownership of any research and changes to the ad types that fall within the Acceptable Ads Standard. It was a way for eyeo to ensure that the Standard remains impartial and advocated for by the main stakeholders it affects. In order to provide room for growth and to create the best value exchange for the Standard, new - A decade worth celebrating and an exciting future to embrace

We’ve had a lot to celebrate this year. Apart from hitting our 225 million user mark, or the highly-anticipated launch of Trestle , 2021 is also the year we turned ten . A lot has happened to get us to our big anniversary today. So, as the year closes, it’s only natural to look back at our adventure with Acceptable Ads, to show gratitude but also to look forward in anticipation of what the next decade will bring. Here are some of our top highlights over the years: Though, of course we aren’t going to leave you hanging with just a list of achievements. In this final blog post for the year, we thought it’d be insightful to share some thoughts from those who have been at Acceptable Ads from the beginning and from a few others who have seen its vital developmental years. In short: to give a bit of flesh and life to such a happy string of accomplishments by allowing the voices of Acceptable A - User experience on partner sites – should ad networks care?

Many players in the advertising ecosystem do not necessarily associate ad networks with user-centric entities and the sentiment is understandable. As an average network typically deals with hundreds or even thousands of publishers, the main focus is usually on optimizing revenue, not on user experience. But we all know that the user is and will remain the lynchpin of the entire system. So is there a way for ad networks to also take part in improving the user experience? When we talk about user experience, interestingly, it’s never just about the user. User experience encompasses the user’s needs, values, understanding and interaction with a system or service. Often, the ideas, brands or even advertising surrounding the user can contribute to that experience –– be it positively or negatively. This is why many users today have decided to be proactive by blocking or filtering ads. The user - Ten years of Acceptable Ads, a decade to be thankful for

Acceptable Ads turns ten this year, which means it’s been a decade of improving the internet and contributing towards a sustainable online value exchange between users, publishers and advertisers. The advent of Acceptable Ads wouldn’t have been necessary if the internet functioned perfectly –– but Acceptable Ads wasn’t created to strive towards the perfect internet, but rather a fair and sustainable one for all parties to benefit from. Acceptable Ads was born out of the realization that ad blocking was only a short-term solution, a way to salvage a broken and uncontrollable online advertising system. But there was always a need for something more; a solution that met the needs of advertisers, publishers and users, one that would continue to help the online ecosystem thrive for everyone in the years to come. In 2011, Acceptable Ads came into existence. Its ability to create an improved st - Acceptable Ads at scale is possible (look at TikTok)

When we think of social media, the term ‘user experience’ doesn’t automatically resonate. That’s because social media platforms are not generally known for their emphasis on user experience, ad blockers or creating ad formats that benefit both users and advertisers. But that’s about to change. During TikTok World, an online conference held by TikTok on September 28, the video sharing focused social network discussed their upcoming features and the reasons behind their rollout––and it’s something to pay close attention to. Several of the panelists touched on the importance of user engagement and user experience, including big plans to bring into play nonintrusive, native ad types that honor both their user base and brands. User experience at the forefront It’s not a secret that TikTok rose to popularity in 2020 during the period of (multiple) lockdowns around the world. We are happy to announce that Acceptable Ads has turned 10. Years ago, when this all started, it was not so obvious we’d manage to get to the current moment, but we have. Thus, we’d like to take this opportunity to recap a bit of how we got here and what’s happening now that fills us with excitement for starting the next decade. Origin Story In 2011, CEO and co-founder of eyeo, Till Faida, along with chairman and investment angel Tim Schumacher, and Adblock Plus developer Wladimir Palant took Palant’s highly successful ad blocker and turned it into a bet for a sustainable online future. Bet , because it was a serious risk. Palant could have gone a number of ways with the technology that he was developing––he had huge success from the get-go––but he and Faida had the idea that easy solutions would not have a profound impact on the state of the internet as a whole. They wanted to enable a - What would happen to the internet without ad blockers?

It’s a hypothetical that we all contemplate. But to even begin answering the question, we have to go back in time…to when people started using ad blockers in the first place. The Wild West of the early web Remembering back to a time pre-ad blocking is a chaotic, colorful experience. The sparkly pop-ups. The garish, neon-blinking banner ads. The invasiveness of advertising and the way ads competed with one another to have the more eye-catching (read: manic and distracting) visuals gave browsing a bit of an adrenaline-tinged edge. Users were braced for the next pop-up, never quite knowing when it would arrive, or how, but certain that it would be there when you least expected it. It was in this environment that ad blocking was born. Ad blocking: a way to silence the chatter and browse in peace. The way most people think about advertising differs significantly––but one thing remains clear: online ads are now louder, flashier and more invasive. Unfortunately, that also means that more people either download ad blockers or become oblivious to the many banner ads they see online. At Acceptable Ads, we often talk about the three types of ad-blocking users, though it’s true that only two types are known for most people. The first is the standard user, those users who don’t use an ad-blocker or ad-filtering software to limit online advertisements from their online browsing experience. They also generally get used to ignoring or tuning out invasive advertisements. The second type is the non-addressable user, those users who prefer to block out all ads completely. A third type, however, exists in surprisingly large numbers: the hard-to-reach ad-filtering users. Unlike the first group, t - What’s even more important to brand safety than ad content?

The heart and soul of an advertisement is content, from its messaging in language to the images it deploys to its color palette. In fact, it can be easy to forget that there’s anything else to consider once you’re done perfecting the content of an ad. But that would be a huge mistake. It’s vital to consider not just the content within an advertisement, but ad placement: the content an ad appears next to . Location, location, location When GlobalWebIndex (GWI) asked consumers “Which of these would most negatively impact your view of a brand?” 31% responded “ads next to inappropriate content.” To underline just how detrimental poor ad placement can be to a consumers’ view of a brand: ad placement next to inappropriate content is more than twice as likely to deter consumers as “ads without diversity and inclusivity.” This is, as GWI points out, an especially interesting finding in 2021.
