Sep 12, 2024 · original
We were thrilled to participate in the ‘Designing The Future: Architectural Visions and Innovations’ at the London Festival of Architecture , in collaboration with Fagerhult . The event discussed the future of architecture around the world, and its merger with technology in a world of AI, will we all become Futurists or just be thinking about the future whilst the AI either leads or follows us. The jury remained out. It was my great pleasure to Chair the Women in Architecture fringe function Buro Happold yesterday. I’d like to thank our great panelist’s Julie Bramsdon, Suzanne Ross, Hazel Whittaker, Marsha Ramroop, and Pepper Barney, for their thought provoking discussion and our host Anna Ifanti and of course the Women in Architecture UK steering panel at this year’s UKREiiF event. It was a really positive discussion with lots of great ideas and energy from the panellists in discussing the Here are my 5 golden nuggets from the discussion to take away and apply:- 1. Ask for a pay rise as few employers in a weak economy bring this to the table. 2. Be positive as progress ‘is’ being made and you can be part of that change by being proactive and involved. 3. The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) is also exploring new directions for its Part 3 examination, the final stage of qualification for architects in the UK. Traditionally, Part 3 focuses on professional practice and management, ensuring candidates are ready to take on the responsibilities of a registered architect. Several innovative ideas are being discussed for the future of RIBA Part 3: 1. Integrated Learning and Assessment: There is a growing interest in integrating Part 3 more closely with professional practice. This is beginning to happen in a limited number of architecture schools at Part 2 level already, so it seems natural to have this facility for Part 3 perhaps.
