Women’s tennis improves to 3-2 after win in De Pere

The UW-Oshkosh women’s tennis team (3-2) defeated St. Norbert College 5-2 on Sept. 18 at the Green Bay Tennis Center in De Pere. “I think this win brought our team some confidence as we continue with our season,” Kayla Gibbs said. “All around I saw good playing from my teammates and really good points.” The Titans won two of three doubles matches, taking the final two, while also winning four of six singles matches. Brianna Owens and Olivia Pethan lost the No. 1 doubles match 6-3. Jameson Gregory and Peyton Peterson won 6-3, followed by Gibbs and Taylor Longdin’s 6-2 victory. Gibbs said she was happy with how she played with Longdin during their first ever match as a duo. “I think being friends off the court helps the connection of doubles teams, ” Gibbs said. “We worked well and built each other up which is what a good doubles team does.” Gibbs said there’s a different mindset when play

The No. 1 ranked UW-Oshkosh women’s volleyball team went 2-1 at the St. Catherine University Invitational over the weekend (Sept. 18-19). The Titans swept both St. Catherine University (Minn.) and University of Northwestern (Minn.) and fell 3-2 to No. 7 Juniata College (Pa.). Samantha Perlberg became the all-time kills leader in UW-Oshkosh’s women’s volleyball program history as the Titans defeated the University of Northwestern (Minn.) Sept. 19. Perlberg’s 13th kill in the 3-0 win and 1,536 in her career which leaped her past the previous record set by Katelyn Machelski in 2008. Perlberg’s success is something that head coach Jon Ellmann credits to her unselfish attitude and also admits that her versatility is a massive part to the team’s success in the past three seasons she has been a part of to this year. “I can’t speak to what this means to her, but I know she would give credit to everyone around her,” Ellmann said. “That’s just what kind of person she is – selfless. The Oshkosh Deputy Mayor Karl Buelow announced on Aug. 18 that he’ll be running for Mayor of Oshkosh in the upcoming spring 2027 election, being so far the only candidate running for the position. “I’ve served with some amazing people on city council,” Buelow said. “I believe I am the best person to step forward into the Mayor role.” Buelow made the announcement on his Facebook page Aug. 17, ahead of when most candidates usually announce on the week after Thanksgiving. Tony Evers stopped by the UW-Oshkosh campus Sept. 15 as part of his annual back-to-school tour. “The best part of Governor Evers visit is that it allowed the students to shine,” Kristi Wilkum, a communications professor at UWO said. “Evers made it clear that his visit was about seeing a class in action.
