The industry body, formerly known as the Institute of Advertising Practitioners in Ireland, has also proposed the establishment of a dedicated Policy and Evidence Research Centre for the creative industries, backed initially by €1 million in State funding. Shane McGonigle Shane McGonigle, the CEO of the Marketing Institute, is to step down from the role in December. It is understood that McGonigle, one of the country’s top marketing and advertising professionals, is to take on a new role as CMO of a technology company. McGonigle joined the Marketing Institute in August 2022 and has overseen a transformation of the organization since then. He joined it from the food group Kerry where he was strategic marketing director for Europe. Prior to this, he was chief customer officer with the fintech company MyComplianceOffice. McGonigle is also an experienced advertising practitioner, having served as CEO of Leo Burnett in Ireland. He is also a former global director of JWT with responsibility for Baileys as well as Kraft Foods. Dentsu emerged as the leading media agency group in Ireland during the first half of 2026, as a relatively small number of major international account reviews had a significant impact on the Irish media agency market, according to new figures from the media research firm COMvergence. The research firm’s latest New Business Barometer tracked 28 media account moves and pitches in Ireland during the six months, representing approximately €40.5m in media spend. Of this, around €13.2m related to pitches originating in the Irish market while €27.3m was associated with regional or global pitches. Around €19.4m, or 49% of the total spend reviewed, related to accounts ultimately retained by incumbent agencies. A number of Irish agencies took home awards at the annual 2026 Global Search Awards this week in Dublin with Wolfgang Digital leading the pack with six awards, including the Best Global Large SEO Agency. The campaign, developed with the RSA and its media agency Spark Foundry, part of Core, won Bronze in the Radio and Podcast category at the international creative awards. “Cut Short” used an unusual radio intervention across 15 independent stations to highlight the impact of fatal road collisions on families and communities. Bonfire has launched a new Irish language campaign with Ardmore for Beacon CARE Fertility. Bonfire developed the creative for the campaign, while Ardmore is handling media strategy and buying and it marks the two agencies first collaboration since Ardmore invested in Bonfire earlier this year. Running across TV and out-of-home, the campaign uses the Irish language throughout and centres on Irish baby names and the families whose fertility journeys have been supported by Beacon CARE Fertility. Heineken has expanded its GREENLIGHT music platform into long-form audio through a branded podcast developed with GoLoud and audioXi, as the drinks brand looks to build deeper engagement with younger music audiences.
