AFA Announces 2026 Scholarship Recipients, Supporting Airmen, Guardians and Their Families

The Air & Space Forces Association proudly announces its 2026 class of scholarship recipients, awarding more than $117,000 to directly help Airmen, Guardians, and their Families to pursue higher education. The 2026 awards, made possible through the generosity of individual donors and partner organizations, support a wide range of personal development paths from undergraduate and graduate degrees to pilot training and professional certifications. AFA’s Dr. Sydell Perlmutter Gold Memorial Scholarship provides a renewable $5,000 annual scholarship (for a total possible award of $20,000) to the daughter of an Active, Guard, or Reserve Airman pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a STEM field. This year’s winner is Olivia Delacruz, daughter of a retired Air Force master sergeant, who is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in biology at Boise State University. AFA Announces New Board Members at 2026 National Convention

National Harbor, Md. — Delegates of the Air & Space Forces Association (AFA) elected members to four open positions on the association’s Board of Directors on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at the AFA National Convention. Positions up for election were the Vice Chair of the Board for Field Operations; National Treasurer; National Director, East Area; and two positions for National Director, at Large. The following members will begin their terms on the Board of Directors: Janelle Stafford, Vice Chair of the Board for Field Operations. Stafford, of Shawnee, Okla., has been an AFA member for more than 20 years and most recently served as National Director, Central Area. She chairs the Membership Committee and was named AFA National Member of the Year in 2024. ARLINGTON, Va., Sept. 22, 2026 — The Air & Space Forces Association launched the AFA Association Partners Program at its Air, Space & Cyber Conference in National Harbor, Md. AFA signed memorandums of understanding with three organizations serving the Air Force and Space Force community. The Air & Space Forces Association (AFA) will host a panel commemorating the United States’ response to the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, and how it reshaped national defense in the 25 years since at its Air, Space & Cyber Conference. The panel, “Bravery in the Skies: The Nation’s Response to 9/11 and Its Impact on National Defense 25 Years Later,” will feature firsthand accounts from two fighter pilots who scrambled to protect the nation’s capital as the attacks were underway. On August 18, Cheryl Moye, vice president of the AFA Swamp Fox Chapter of South Carolina, opened her mailbox to a surprise—a letter sent from the South Carolina House of Representatives written by its Speaker of the House recognizing Moye for her leadership.
