  2. New Program Allows Athletes to Create a Tailored Everyday Nutrition Plan to Match their Individual Needs
    May 5, 2023 · original
Dietitian expert in endurance athlete nutrition, Alex Larson, just launched a new program to help the everyday athlete meet their nutrition goals through a simple to follow, comprehensive eating blueprint. As an athlete who is mindful of nutrition, but not looking for the commitment of working directly with a dietician, I was eager to give the Fueling that Fits program a try. After several weeks of programming, homework and debrief with Larson, I came away from the course with a new outlook on the way I view food, a newfound appreciation for carbs and a deeper understanding of the macros my body needs on a daily and weekly basis. Fueling that Fits is a multi step program that is presented through short videos, assignments and recaps. It is easy to follow, well developed and requires a realistic amount of time and effort. A great deal of care was put into the flow of the program. It must

    Apr 19, 2023 · original
There are a few names that have become synonymous with the world of endurance sports: Ironman, TCS NYC Marathon, Leadville 100. These big brand named events represent the pinnacle of our sports and bring in thousands of athletes. But, there are many small, local events that draw a crowd and put on a competitive, enjoyable race experience. In this multi part series, we’ll be highlighting a few of our favorite local races throughout the US. HarryMan Triathlon , Harriman State Park, Stony Point New York This race, which offers both Olympic and middle (70.3) distances, is the ultimate way to kick off your season. It takes place in the second largest state park in NY and boasts beautiful landscapes, expansive lakes and lots of hills. Oh, and it is also one of the most challenging early-season courses in the Northeast. What we love about the HarryMan Triathlon. Mass swim start Yup, you read th
  4. Eating to Prevent Injury
    Mar 15, 2023 · original
Proper nutrition is key to fueling training sessions and facilitating adequate recovery. Athletes should see nutrition, which includes both fuel and food, as a training tool to enhance athletic performance and prevent injury. If our tank is empty, not only will we fall short of our goals but we run the risk of injuring ourselves, too. The link between Low Energy Availability (LEA) and injury LEA is when the body has insufficient energy to support all of the physiological functions required for optimal health. Essentially, the energy going into the body isn’t enough to support both our secondary activities (i.e., sport, work, day-to-day activities) and our normal physiological processes (breathing, sleeping, digesting, etc.). Given athletes’ high levels of activity, they have greater susceptibility to LEA compared to the general population. This can be unintentional, due to increased ener

    Jan 18, 2023 · original
We are incredibly excited to announce the launch of form able , a dedicated platform for run and swim form analyses. Since AgeGrouper’s inception, we’ve had the privilege of connecting with so many incredible people within the endurance sports community. We’ve collaborated with experts, heard stories from athletes and gained an understanding of what our triathletes want and need. A recurring theme that kept popping up in our conversations was the need for guidance specific to each athlete’s unique training needs. And today, we are thrilled to bring you form able . OUR GOALS WITH formable : Build awareness of the importance of form and technique development in endurances sports Provide access to some of the world’s best coaches Share person
  6. Off-Road Cycling for the On Road Athlete
    Jan 2, 2023 · original
One of the fastest growing sectors within the cycling industry is off-road or gravel bike riding, and for good reason, it’s a great workout and it’s a ton of fun. According to the NYT , gravel bike sales jumped over 109 percent from 2019 to 2021. This year, USAT made a push to get people off-roading in its inaugural 2022 Triathlon Gravel Triathlon Series, which offers endurance sports enthusiasts a new way to experience multisport racing at gravel events across the US. But how does this new center point of cycling fit in with the other aspects of endurance sports? Are they mixing it in as cross training? Are there benefits to this subset of riding? We wanted to seek out answers to these questions, so we sat down with veteran professional endurance athlete and avid gravel rider, Angela Naeth. We’re not talking about your everyday athlete… Since coming on to the triathlon scene in 2008, Na
  7. 3 Steps to Season Planning
    Nov 30, 2022 · original
Success in triathlon and life in general, is achieved when you set goals, create a plan and then execute that plan. We refer to this process as season planning and when done correctly, it will help set you up for success. The fall and early winter is a great time to start planning for next season. Races are beginning to open up so you should act thoughtfully and expeditiously as many popular races sell out FAST. Below I will outline a simple, but effective, approach to setting yourself up for a super successful year. 1. Establish Goals (and write them down) First, decide WHAT it is you are setting out to achieve. It’s important to write your goals down and be as specific as possible. Include a date or timeline for your goal, otherwise procrastination (among other things) is inevitable. A few examples of well written goals: Finish my first triathlon at the Wyckoff – Franklin Lakes Triathl
  8. Removing the fear of riding OUTDOORS
    Nov 28, 2022 · original
How can I get over my fear of riding outside on the road? As a triathlon mental performance coach, I have been asked this question many times. This fear of riding outside increases when we hear of club-mates, friends and other triathletes suffering a crash. Social media is full of gory images shared by athletes who have suffered crashes. We are inundated with pictures and stories of road rash, broken bones and gashes from those who were hit by cars or crashed on descents. The seed of a crash has been planted and these very thoughts trigger the fight or flight response. It is only natural that you will want to stick to the trainer and avoid riding outside. In addition, some of the pros, such as Lionel Sanders, are doing most of their riding indoors, adding further fuel to the fire. But before you give up on riding outdoors all together, we need to first identify if indeed the fight or fli
  9. The Truth Behind Fasted Training
    Nov 16, 2022 · original
It is well known that carbohydrates fuel our muscles for training, performance and recovery. But new practices including, intermittent fasting (IF), fasted workouts and glycogen depleted workouts are rearing their head among the endurance community. So why would an athlete deviate from carbs and attempt fasted workouts? The simple answer is to improve fat oxidation (or use of fat for fuel) during training and racing, mental focus and weight loss. But this approach should not be done without serious consideration. Fasting is a lifestyle strategy that has been adopted as a therapeutic intervention for the management of several chronic diseases and health among the general population. Fasting is the abstinence of consuming food and beverage for a period of time that can last several hours per day to a few weeks. For the sake of this article, a fasted workout is training in a depleted state
