- Multi-story tree lines
Feb 10, 2020 · original
At the beginning of February, Ernst Götsch was in Portugal to implement the lines of trees in a complex system that includes apple trees, plums, blueberries, grapes, lemon, blackberry, ash, poplar, strawberries, and short-cycle vegetables. When it gets a little warmer, each strip between the trees will receive two double lines of chili peppers, among others that will help occupy and nourish the entire system. The initiative is from Mendes Gonçalves , known for the brand Paladin , a company that has an extensive list of products and manages to absorb the wide variety of species planted in the system. A highlight of this design, which is a common question, especially for commercial plantations, is that the strata of the trees were distributed in different lines. While some lines concentrate the low and canopy layers, others receive the medium and emergent. It facilitates management and har - MORE THAN MULCH – the benefits of having constantly occupied soil

More than mulch, Syntropic Agriculture proposes that the soil always remains occupied by growing species. The advantages are numerous: optimization of photosynthesis, soil life chain stimulation, constant input of organic matter, and above all, the complete independence of herbicides. In this video, Fernando Rebello, from CEPEAS – Syntropic Agriculture Research Center, presents experimental areas implemented under the guidance of Ernst Götsch, in which trees, grains and vegetables grow harmoniously. Thus we have a total occupation of the field in time ( natural succession ) and space (stratification). The result is a biodiverse, ecologically resilient field that ensures financial flexibility for the farmer. - The best coffee of the year is from Syntropic Agriculture

Belo Horizonte_MG, 21 novembro de 2019\n\nSIC – Semana Internacional do Cafe\n\nImagem: Gustavo Baxter / NITRO Among 500 coffee samples from 20 Brazilian regions, the coffee from producer Wilians Valério, from Recanto dos Tucanos received the Best Coffee of the Year 2019 award . The contest is one of the most important in the Brazilian scenario and the selection featured a number of phases that included expert appreciation (arabica coffee Q-Graders ), cupping tables, blind tasting tests and public voting. At the moment of the final announcement, the Recanto dos Tucanos team took the stage, carrying syntropic agriculture’s name and also a beautiful story that lays behind this champion coffee. Nov 25, 2019 · original
You have already seen here our experience report on the implementation of syntropic school gardens . We also have shared the theoretical foundation behind this initiative and some reflections derived from the practic e . Soon after the first year of the project, we started to develop a material that gathers the description of all activities, pointing out the positive aspects as well as the challenges. The initial idea was that this collection would guide us next year, helping us to replicate things that went well, correct what went wrong, and inspire us always to take a step further. So, it is a guide under construction and made for internal use. However, as there are other school garden initiatives starting from people who, inspired by our case, also decided to get their hands in the soil, we thought it would make a lot more sense if this material becomes public. That’s why we share her - Peace-Farming Technology – preparing the beds
Nov 14, 2019 · original
If you have been to one of Ernst Götsch’s workshops or presentations for the past years, you’ve probably heard him talking about his ideas for new machines – an essential step to up-scale the implementation and management of complex agroecosystems. So far, he designed a set of eight machines to perform soil preparation, as well as sowing, pruning, cutting, mulching, and harvesting. “Peace Farming Technologies” is the name he gave for this series. Today we are happy to announce that the first machine is ready. It’s a “bed maker” for compacted soils, a situation quite common for most farmers. It’s the integration of subsoilers with a rotating hoe that lifts the soils and breaks only the surface layer, along with the root system of existing weeds. The result is a fluffy deep bed with the best structure possible to favor root growth. All that in just one go. Ernst had tried this system befor - Ernst Götsch Conference 2018 now available

Ernst Götsch presented his ideas in a conference dedicated to Syntropic Farming in Mértola, Portugal, in November 2018. As we promised, after one year we would make it available to all. Here they are, the full videos of the 2-day event, including the side events “Communication and Syntropic Farming” with the author Edmara Barbosa and the “Large-scale debate”. We hope you enjoy First day – Portuguese Conferência com Ernst Götsch Comunicação e Agricultura Sintrópica, com Edmara Barbosa Perguntas e respostas Second day – English Ernst Götsch’s Conference Large-scale debate - Planting Rocks
Nov 10, 2019 · original
Stones in the field are often a huge problem, and the standard solution is to remove them. But Ernst Götsch has a new suggestion: plant them! medium size rocks can easily be "planted" The idea of burying the stones is mainly related to three aspects. First is the fact that land tilling in syntropic agriculture only happens once , so this first intervention is our chance to organize the elements present in the area as efficiently as possible. Stones on the surface are a problem, but stones underneath the ground are valuable resources. rocks should be buried at least 5cm deep It brings us to the second aspect. The buried stone becomes an asset because the life dynamics, once established, will gradually “digest” the rocks. Dense, stratified and successional agroecosystems maintain a close relationship with biotic and abiotic processes of soil formation and nutrient bioavailability. * In Portuguese only . If you want to see the video below subtitled and have some time to help us out, we would appreciate it Em setembro de 2019 estive em Goiás/Brasil e aproveitei a oportunidade para conversar com o Fernando Rebello, agricultor sintrópico, biólogo e fundador do CEPEAS – Centro de Pesquisa em Agricultura Sintrópica . - Perennials – Part I (full text)

In “Perennials,” Ernst Götsch brings back memories of his childhood and his family’s eating habits. But, along with reviving flavors and varieties of countless fruits, leaves, herbs, and roots, Ernst also unfolds a sensitive anthropological thread that reveals much about the values and practices of ancient rural communities, moments before their extinction — deliberately driven by the dissemination campaigns of the so-called modernization of agriculture. The context is northeastern Switzerland. The memories are composed of both his own experiences and the testimonials of the elder members of his community. It expands the range of this narrative for at least two or three generations and depicts a type of landscape management we no longer have — a place and time that is worth revisiting, and perhaps learn some beautiful lessons from it. The renowned scientist Antonio Nobre and the farmer and researcher Ernst Götsch met for many enriching conversations about climate change and agricultural models for the Amazon. One of these meetings took place at the Federal University of Western Pará’s experimental farm, in September 2019. From the material recorded by the event organizer and author Edmara Barbosa, we extracted two excerpts in which the scientist Antonio Nobre invites us to reflect on the risks of losing one of the greatest richness on the planet. Diversity, Richness and Economy – Antonio Nobre Man-made Deserts – Antonio Nobre Following this, the seminar “Syntropy in the Amazon: Science, Agriculture and Forest” presented the challenges and opportunities for farmers in the Amazon.
