- E46 EV conversion design parameters and engine is out
Mar 27, 2026 · original
As of right now I have decided to go for Hyper 9 HV motor with 48S 160Ah LFP. According to AI, this would give around 100km of range. Current battery placement plan is for 20 cell in the engine bay and 14+14 distributed between two sides where the gas tank used to be. This would make the front end lighter compared to original ICE car, also would help in steering effort since the power steering would be deleted. For wheels, I’m going for style 53 due to the low weight and narrow tires. This should reduce rolling resistance and increase aerodynamic. TPMS will be added to ensure optimum tire pressure. On to some pictures, Eid break was spent by pulling the engine out and detaching the transmission. - E46 EV conversion started

Our local transport department allow EV conversion to be registered properly for road use. So since I still have the E46 with broken engine, it is the perfect platform for this project. And as I know from years back when starting the project for the E30. The bell housing for the gearbox is the same. I spent the new year break preparing for engine removal. As of now, the plan is to mate the gearbox with Hyper 9 motor. I’ll keep this blog updated. - Tantillus build – Part 3, dry run

Controller board used for the Tantillus is the Anet board taken from my Anet A8. It is paired with Raspberry Pi Zero W running Octoprint for wireless access. Right now, more parts are due to arrive like the printing platform and Bowden tube. Next I would need to decide whether to use an internal power supply or external power brick. Below are the changes made to the build Metric fasteners and rods instead of imperial because those are easily available where I live GT2 belt instead of strings, stringing looks like a chore and I found a mod on Thingiverse which I further improve on E3D V6 lite instead of J-Head, this is the part I already have in the parts bin Aluminum off the shelf extruder instead of the printed one. A stepper mount was embedded into the base section. Z carrier from Thingiverse, I’m not sure if there’s anything wrong with the original one Modify the top Z bracket so to not hold the lead screw avoiding Z wobble Modified Z endstop switch holder The original design needs the belt to be tied down with zip tie. This remix doesn’t https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:359344 This E3D hotend mount looks to not compromise on print area https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:957680 A nema 17 mount is embedded into th - Tantillus build – Part 1, printed case
May 11, 2020 · original
A few years late I know, I was looking for a small printer to build with some leftover parts. Bumped into Tantillus which matches the desired physical and printing dimensions. Instead of printing the Tantillus case in 12 different parts, the parts were combined in Meshmixer and printed in three parts. Each sections (top, middle and base) took about 7 hours each to complete with 1mm nozzle, 0.5mm layer thickness. The top part was printed first, since I was new to meshmixer then the merging was not very well done. Since it was printed, the top and middle STL was reworked. Stringing, not yet calibrated Middle part being printed middle part done Base part was trimmed short and include the lower Z bracket The case could be printed at once but would not risk it
