  1. Beginner Motorcycle Mistakes
    Dec 23, 2020 · original
Learning something new is always an adjustment. Some people pick things up faster than others. Sometimes when you are new you just don’t know you what you don’t know. My last blog post was the mistakes you could make BEFORE your first bike purchase. These next three beginner mistakes are on the road. 1. Following distance: Keep a good amount of space between you and the car in front of you. This is good device for every new car driver as well. Your insurance company will find you liable if you rear end someone. Your rate could skyrocket over a fender bender. Bikes are fast. Sometimes it’s hard to keep space in front of you, but it’s extremely important. Not only could you launch yourself through some car’s back window, but if the rider in front of you goes down you could hit them. 2. Proper use of brakes: 80% your stopping power is your front brakes, yet there are still some people who d
  2. Three Beginner Motorcycle Mistakes
    Dec 14, 2020 · original
Everyone makes mistakes, but these can be avoided. These are a few things we have noticed over the years that come up again and again. These three things happen before your motorcycle even gets on the road. Buying a motorcycle too big for you. There is a ton of bad advice out there about motorcycles and getting bored of a small bike is one of them. Whether it’s cc size or literally just the seat height, I see a ton of people bite off more than they can chew and end up getting hurt or having to downgrade. Don’t listen to the hype. If you aren’t sure whether you can handle a bigger bike just get a small fun one and sell it when the time is right for YOU. Cheaping out on gear. I promise you a $50 off-brand Ebay helmet is not safe to put on your head. Do some research on brands and fitment and then try some on. One of the biggest mistakes I see beginners making with helmets is buying it a si
  3. Is Ethanol Bad For Motorcycles?
    Dec 11, 2020 · original
Why is ethanol bad for motorcycles? Before we dig into ethanol’s effect on your motorcycle, let’s go back a quick second in history. So the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sets biofuel blending requirements for the refining industry. Congress created the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) program which is basically a regulation that is aimed at supporting domestic agriculture and reducing U.S. dependence on foreign oil. There are upsides to ethanol. It is renewable, boosts the octane number of fuel and actually burns more completely and at a cooler temperature than gasoline. There are many arguments on the actual environmental benefits, but we won’t delve in that deep. By 2007, the Energy Independence and Security Act required 36 billion US gallons of renewable fuel use by 2022. Ethanol production from cellulosic feedstocks was supposed to be at 16 billion US gallons a year and corn eth
  4. Will Modifications Help Sell My Motorcycle?
    Dec 8, 2020 · original
Everyone likes to do some modifications on their motorcycle! Customizing is part of the fun. But will these cool modifications make the value of your bike go up? Generally mods don’t make the value of the bike go up at all and sometimes they actually can make it less desirable. I think modifications can definitely draw buyers eyes, but it really depends on what the mods are and how they are installed. Generally, mods like exhausts, frame sliders/cages and luggage racks will help get you the most bang for your buck in terms of more return on your motorcycle. Three things I’ve generally found that do not help much are apehangers, levers, and super custom paint jobs. Sometimes you’ll get lucky and the modifications you do are EXACTLY what someone else wants to have on their bike, but trends are moving away from this. Most buyers actually want to customize their bike to their own taste. Be c
  5. Motorcycle Service: Things you need to know.
    Jul 5, 2019 · original
Motorcycle Service: Oil Change Having your motorcycle running at its best is only achieved if your motorcycle service is performed correctly and often. Motorcycle service is the key to having an enjoyable ride. There are a few important motorcycle services that are often overlooked. Everyone always gets their oil changed although sometimes not often enough. Engine oil for a motorcycle should be changed every 4k miles. Motorcycles are not like cars when it comes to engine oil being able to go 10k miles or more between changes. The most common reason for this is because the transmission and clutch are encased within the engine. Thus the oil is lubricating three times the amount of wearable parts than a car. Many motorcycle engines are also air cooled. It is less common with newer models, but many models manufactured in the 2000s, especially cruisers, were air cooled which are subject to hi
  6. Necessary Motorcycle Gear For Every Rider In 2019
    Jun 21, 2019 · original
You just bought your first motorcycle and now you need gear! It’s important to have equipment that provides safety and minimize risks during the ride, and in case of a possible crash. Here is a list of basic gear you’ll need. Helmets Helmets are the most important piece of safety equipment. It’s your head and your brain. Purchase wisely. Any helmet you purchase should be DOT approved and SNELL approval would be good as well. SNELL does it’s own private test on helmets. If you skimp on any part of your gear, do not skimp on the helmet! Most high end helmets have pinlock visors for an antifog insert. This is so helpful on cold mornings when breathing at stop lights completely fogs up your shield. I always recommend full face helmets and modular helmets over half helmets or 3/4 helmets. It’s also nice to be able to connect a Bluetooth up and listen to music or get directions in your helmet.
  7. Financing a Pre-Owned Motorcycle Purchase
    Mar 6, 2019 · original
Financing a Used Motorcycle Purchase If you have never financed a vehicle from a dealership, fear not! There are some easy ways to make sure this process goes smoothly and be ready for whatever comes at you. Credit score is obviously what the bank looks at first, but then they’ll dig into your credit bureau and look through your accounts to see if there are any red flags. So no matter what your credit score is, the bank may come back with stipulations. Stipulations can range from one or two minor things to like ten things. I think the most stips I’ve seen a bank give my customer is 10. Downpayment stipulations are pretty common. Sometimes the bank will want 10% or sometimes just a dollar amount like $2,000. Your job stability is very important to the bank since it’s how you will be repaying them back. It is important for you to be prepared with your latest paystub and/or last 3 months of

  9. How to Paint Your Motorcycle For Beginners: Using Dupli-Color Paints
    Sep 18, 2017 · original
Every motorcycle enthusiasts loves to give their ride a custom look. Most people do not want to tackle painting their motorcycle themselves, and paying for a professional paint job can be expensive. Do not worry though I felt the same way, but with Dupli-Color paint products and this how-to instruction you will be able to tackle your project with ease. At the end of this how article are links to all the products I purchase and use for my personal projects. First Step: Stripping The Paint Stripping the paint is probably the easiest thing to do because there is not much you can mess up. All you have to do is start with a heavy grit sand paper and go to town. The goal here is not to get down to bare metal if you are painting on a metal surface nor to sand out any imperfections in your body work such as major scratches from a crash or minor dents. You just want to sand through at least the c
  10. Motorcycle Safety Course in Maryland: What to expect as a beginner
    Sep 12, 2017 · original
THE SAFETY COURSE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR IN DECIDING THE SIZE OF YOUR FIRST MOTORCYCLE. Yes, it’s in caps. It’s important. Am I screaming? Maybe… We’ve gone over a bunch of different decision making factors to help you figure out what bike to buy. BUT, this is the most important: Before you even start really looking too hard at motorcycles you need to take the Motorcycle Safety Foundation Course (MSF). I don’t care if your friend’s cousin baby daddy rides and wants to teach you. No. Don’t be cheap, don’t be lazy. It’s like 350 bucks for the Basic Rider Course (BRC) and they provide the bike. Also, you take your motorcycle MVA written and road test directly at the testing facility so all you do is go to the MVA with your completion certificate and they issue you a Motorcycle License/M endorsement on the spot. That’s it- you learn to ride and you are legal. Win/win. This saves you th
