An outstanding group of senior adults was honored Sunday afternoon with induction into the Alabama Senior Citizens Hall of Fame during a ceremony in Prattville. In addition to the 10 permanent and one posthumous inductees into the Hall of Fame, other seniors were recognized for contributions and service to their communities. The 2025 Senior Citizens Hall of Fame inductees are: W.F. “Noopie” Cosby, Jr., Valley Grande; JoAnn Grimsley, Midland; Russ Hutcherson, Huntsville; Thomas Moore, Demopolis; Nancy Robertson, Huntsville; Jeffrey Sparks, Jasper; Geoff Statum, Huntsville; Robert Worlds, Pansey; Patricia Wright, Troy; Joe Young, Birmingham and posthumous Clarence Harrison Bishop, Fairhope. Special awards were presented to 31 senior citizens for outstanding service in other categories, including Lifetime Achievement, Community Service, Senior Center, Education, and Veterans. Everyone Can Prevent Medicare Fraud Fraud costs Medicare an estimated $60 billion per year. It costs Medicare beneficiaries time, stress, medical identities, and health. Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey has declared May as “Older Americans Month.” In signing the official proclamation on May 14, 2026, Gov. Ivey urged every Alabamian to take time in May to recognize older adults and the people who serve them as essential and valuable members of the community. Celebrated every May, Older Americans Month (OAM) is led by the federal Administration for Community Living (ACL). Established in 1963, OAM is a time to recognize older Americans’ contributions, highlight aging trends, and reaffirm commitments to serving older adults in our communities. This year’s theme, “Champion Your Health,” focuses on prevention, wellness, and personal responsibility as cornerstones of healthy aging. The Alabama Department of Senior Services (ADSS) has been awarded two highly competitive federal grants that position Alabama as a national leader in strengthening respite and caregiver support systems. ADSS was selected as one of eight states nationwide to receive a Lifespan Respite State Program Enhancement grant and as one of five states to receive an Advancing State Implementation of the National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers grant—a distinction that underscores the strength and innovation of Alabama’s caregiver infrastructure. “Receiving both of these grants is a compliment to the work being done in Alabama on behalf of our older adults,” said Department of Senior Services Commissioner Jean Brown. “ADSS is committed to providing resources and services to secure and maintain the independence and dignity of older Alabamians and persons with disabilities.” The Lifespan Respite
