- Celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary at the 2026 Alameda County Fair
Aug 27, 2026 · original
How Did the Alameda County Fair Celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary? The Fourth of July has always been one of the most important days of the Alameda County Fair. As a red, white and blue Fair, Independence Day has been woven into the Fair’s identity for generations. Each year, Fair dates are scheduled to include July 4, allowing Fairgoers to celebrate America’s birthday alongside one of Northern California’s favorite summer traditions. In 2026, that tradition took on even greater significance as the nation celebrated its 250th anniversary. To honor the milestone, the Alameda County Fair hosted an expanded July 4 celebration featuring Blues Fest at the Fair, FIFA watch parties, extended hours and a Fireworks Spectacular accompanied by the Oakland Symphony. A Day Built Around Celebration Patriotism was woven throughout the Fair from opening day to closing night during the 2026 Fair. Simple Tradition of Giving Back Deemed as simply “Pleasanton mothers who give back”, this story highlights how a small but meaningful gesture of generosity from a group of women in our community made a lasting impact on an Alameda County Fair institution. The Story Behind the $100 Breakfast Several years ago, a Pleasanton woman came across a Facebook post about a group that gathered each December for something they called a “$100 Breakfast.” The idea was simple. They would gather at a restaurant, order breakfast and each pay $100, no change given back. This group chose breakfast intentionally because it is typically less expensive than any other meal service, which meant the tip could make an even bigger impact to the server or restaurant. At a dinner with friends, she shared the story and asked if they wanted to help out and plan a $100 breakfast date of our own. What is Women’s History Month and International Women's Day? Since 1978 Women’s History Month (March) has celebrated the achievements of women and the continued pursuit of equality. At the Alameda County Agricultural Fair Association (ACAFA), that story is not just historical. It is local, community driven and measurable. Women serve as leaders, sponsors, volunteers, educators, entrepreneurs and partners who help power year round events and the annual Fair. International Women’s Day, March 8, was first observed in 1911. Just one year later, the first Alameda County Fair (ACF) opened in 1912. The timing is a meaningful reminder that the Fairgrounds and the global movement recognizing women’s contributions grew up in the same era. For more than a century, both have continued to evolve, creating more opportunities for women to lead, build businesses and shape communities.
