It’s been evident to this reporter that a Halloween phantasmagoric phenomenon has been taking place over the past few years — the expansion of the holiday from a single day of dark revelry into a week of spooky celebrations, then a month of shrieks and cackles, and now, for some people, a year-round thing with maybe a brief pause for Christmas. I blame the Goths. I blame Reese’s. I blame Spirit Halloween. The result is that the Halloween mafia has taken what was a perfectly fine and fun event and turned us all into zombies, craving fangs, terrifying masks, and orange-filled Oreos, until we’ve lost our goblin minds. The Alameda Chamber and Economic Alliance hosted its inaugural Business Expo and Career Fair at Gold Bar Distillery on September 17, organized in partnership with the City of Alameda. SF Ferry, Uber Launch Discount Voucher Program for Seaplane Terminal

San Francisco Bay Ferry has launched a discount rideshare program to make it easier and more affordable for Alameda residents and visitors to connect to the Alameda Seaplane Ferry Terminal. Eligible passengers can now receive a discount of up to $2.85 per ride on shared UberX trips between the Alameda Seaplane Ferry Terminal and any address within the city boundaries of Alameda. The program will run through the fall and is designed to improve first- and last-mile connections while making ferry service more accessible to the community. Under the program, users can redeem vouchers up to two times per day. Vouchers are valid during the ferry route’s hours of operation (6 a.m. to 11 p.m.). The San Francisco Walk to End Alzheimer’s and the Walk and Roll to Cure ALS are both happening soon. For many years I have given my time and energy to each cause and lead the warm-up for each. Alameda Post readers will recall that each year I share information about each of these diseases to raise both awareness and funds for research, because people are still being diagnosed and families are still being affected by Alzheimer’s and ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). You may think that you don’t know anyone with ALS, more familiarly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Let’s begin right there. Lou Gehrig was a baseball player with the New York Yankees.
