- Buying a Reformer? Start With This Checklist
Sep 25, 2026 · original
Buying Reformers is one of the most important equipment decisions a Pilates studio owner will make. While price, design, and features may shape your initial shortlist, long-term performance is where the value of your investment becomes clear. As the Pilates landscape changes, you need to consider more than what your studio needs on opening day. Class formats are evolving, studios are expanding to multiple locations, and digital and self-guided programming are creating new ways for clients to engage with Reformer Pilates. Use this checklist to ask the right questions and choose Reformers that support your clients, instructors, and long-term business goals. Start With Your Studio, Not the Reformer It’s tempting to start by comparing specifications; however, begin with what your studio needs. A boutique studio running several group classes each day will have different requirements from a we - What Is Commercial Grade & Why Does It Matter?

The continued growth of Reformer Pilates has transformed the commercial equipment market. Studio owners now have access to an unprecedented range of Reformers, with options available across a wide variety of price points, manufacturers, and product specifications. While many models may look similar on paper, understanding how they are designed, tested, and supported can help buyers make a more informed decision for their business. The true difference between a commercial Reformer and a consumer-grade alternative often isn’t obvious on day one. It becomes apparent months, or even years later, when equipment is being used in busy studios, day after day, class after class. Buying a Reformer Is a Business Decision For studio owners, a Reformer is far more than a piece of equipment. It’s one of the most important investments you will make. Every class and client experience depends on it. Whil - The Complete Reformer Maintenance Checklist for Pilates Studios

In a busy Pilates studio or fitness facility, Reformers are in constant use. Every class places a demand on springs, ropes, wheels, runners, upholstery, and other moving components. Over time, this everyday use naturally leads to wear. While equipment is built for long-lasting reliability, its continued performance hinges on your commitment to regular inspection and maintenance. Small issues can develop gradually and often go unnoticed until they begin affecting movement quality. Why Regular Reformer Maintenance Matters Routine maintenance is about more than keeping your equipment clean. It helps ensure your Reformers continue to perform consistently while supporting a safe environment for instructors and clients. By inspecting your equipment regularly, you can: Identify worn components before they affect performance Reduce unexpected equipment downtime Maintain consistent movement acros - From Passion to Profession: Three Pilates Studio Success Stories

Tilly Heath, Owner of Tilly Pilates, Henley-on-Thames Tilly Heath first discovered Reformer Pilates in 2012, and from her very first class, she was hooked. “There was something about the way it challenged my body that made me feel strong and energised,” she recalls. “Pilates quickly became more than just a workout; it became my happy place.” At the time, Tilly was working in marketing, but over the years she realised her passion lay els - Why More Men Are Turning to Pilates for Strength, Longevity & Better Movement

When people think about men’s fitness, images of heavy weights, long runs, and high-intensity workouts often come to mind. While these forms of exercise have their place, there’s growing recognition that long-term health is more than pushing harder; it’s about moving better . We spoke with Anesti Mano , an NPCP-Certified Pilates Teacher and owner of Algo Pilates Studio , about why more men are incorporating Pilates into their training and how it can support strength, recovery, mental well-being, and healthy ageing. Why Men Are Turning to Pilates More men are recognising that long-term fitness isn’t just about lifting heavier or training harder. With the World Cup capturing the attention of football fans around the globe, it’s easy to focus on the goals, tackles, and moments of brilliance that happen on the pitch. Yet behind every elite performance is a training programme designed to build strength and support long-term resilience. While strength training, conditioning, and recovery protocols are well-established parts of an athlete’s routine, Pilates is increasingly being recognised for its ability to develop control, stability, mobility, and body awareness — all essential components of athletic performance . We spoke with Anesti Mano , an NPCP-Certified Pilates Teacher and owner of Algo Pilates Studio , who shared three Pilates exercises footballers and athletes can incorporate into their training to support strength development, movement efficiency, and injury prevention. Professional Servicing for Pilates Reformers Pilates Reformers absorb the impact of every session. Springs cycle through repeated tension, wheels carry the carriage countless times, pulleys adjust through constant directional changes, and ropes and straps endure daily use. Professional servicing helps reset performance and keep the Reformer working as it should. Why Servicing Matters Wear develops gradually, and the changes are often subtle. You may not notice them day to day, but small shifts in tension or carriage glide can begin to affect how the Reformer feels in use. Exercises may feel slightly uneven, resistance can drift, or movement may lose its usual precision. Catching these signs early through routine checks and professional servicing helps prevent minor wear from turning into larger issues, keeping every session safe and predictable. Popularity and Demand for Pilates The popularity of Pilates-based exercise has increased significantly in recent decades. There are perhaps a multitude of reasons why Pilates has become so popular, including, but by no means limited to, celebrity influences, greater societal interest in staying fit and healthy, and more widespread understanding of the physical benefits of Pilates as a form of body conditioning. Perhaps however, the number one reason why people take up Pilates, at least initially anyway, is linked with its restorative and therapeutic benefits. With soaring levels of inactivity, prolonged time spent being sedentary, and our incessant and overreliance on technology, people just aren’t activating muscles at appropriate levels or in a balanced way like they used to. This has given rise to somewhat of an epidemic of musculoskeletal pain and other pain-related disorders. Medica - How strong are Align-Pilates reformer springs? Strength & comparison.

Pilates is not like weight training, where the weight being lifted is the key factor, indeed in Pilates less resistance is often more challenging and the amount of resistance required from the springs is primarily related to feel rather than kilograms! That said, many customers want to know how strong Align-Pilates’ springs are so they can compare them to other brands they have worked with, or, so they can better understand the most effective way to increase resistance for different exercises. Background – Original Pilates Springs Back in Joseph Pilates day reformers only had 4 springs and these were originally all of equal strength. In addition the springs were steel and did not have linear progression, so users would feel a noticeable non-linear change in the spring resistance as the spring extended. We are pleased to announce that the new C8-Pro Pilates Reformer and A8-Pro Pilates Reformer from Align-Pilates have both just passed independent testing to ISO20957-1 (Class S). This standard specifies general safety requirements (and test methods) for stationary training equipment (which includes large equipment like reformers) for use in training areas of organisations such as sport associations, educational establishments, hotels, sports halls, clubs, rehabilitation centres, and studios. All stationary training equipment in the UK, EU & many other countries should meet this standard in order to be used in Pilates Studios & clubs. A number of Pilates equipment brands are unaware of the requirement for Pilates reformers to meet this standard, which includes rigorous safety and cycle testing, that many reformers will not be able to survive!
