  1. From Period Kits to Dispensers: Evolving Menstrual Care in Nevada’s Elementary Schools
    Sep 29, 2025 · original
By Wendi Schweigart, Project Marilyn founder and Executive Director Project Marilyn , an Allied Member of the Alliance for Period Supplies based in Las Vegas, serves most clients through period kits . These kits contain a variety of period supplies, hopefully enough products to last someone their entire cycle. Our mission is not just about health but dignity as well. When we began serving elementary schools in Nevada, however, we knew that the kits might not be the best solution. A student who is getting her first real period, or maybe just spotting, more likely needs a single product to meet an immediate need rather than a whole package of items to manage. As requests to supply products to elementary schools increased, we contacted Aunt Flow. Project Marilyn was already a Signature Impact Partner of the period products company, which gives us access to preferred pricing. Aunt Flow makes
  2. More than 76 Percent of Americans Want Free Period Supplies in Schools
    Feb 14, 2025 · original
NEW HAVEN, CONN., OCTOBER 10, 2024 More than three-quarters of Americans believe that period supplies should be available free-of-charge at public schools and public universities. A new poll conducted by YouGov for the Alliance for Period Supplies found that 76.5 percent of those surveyed either “agreed” or “strongly agreed” with a statement that menstrual supplies like pads and tampons should be freely available in these settings. When responses were broken down by various factors, such as age, gender and political affiliation, all demographic subgroups showed a clear majority backing free period supplies in schools. “Putting period supplies in schools may seem controversial because of the objections of a few very vocal outliers,” said Alliance for Period Supplies CEO Joanne Samuel Goldblum. “But a strong majority of Americans recognize that period supplies are school supplies. 3. Can You Flush Tampons?
    Jul 18, 2024 · original
Can you flush tampons? It is interesting that this straightforward question does not always have a clear answer. Sometimes brands claim to offer ‘flushable tampons,’ and flushing them can often seem like the most convenient option. But, plumbers tend to agree that tampons can be damaging, costly, and even cause environmental pollution when not disposed of properly. While flushing tampons can seem like a convenient option in the moment, flushing tampons down the toilet can have serious implications to your household and community. Tampons Cannot Be Flushed Tampons, pads, and other personal hygiene products should not be flushed in any scenario. While there are some brands that claim to offer flushable tampon products, these can still be damaging to sewer pipes. The reason behind this is simple. Tampons do not break down in the toilet the same way that your everyday toilet paper does. Tamp
  4. How to host a party with a purpose
    May 17, 2024 · original
By Ashley Eubanks, The Beauty Initiative Full disclosure: I love a party. My family and friends are all party people who will show up anywhere, anytime if you promise them fun, fellowship and food – that magical trio that brings people together. Like most period supply programs, the Beauty Initiative needs to hold volunteer events to create the packages of products that we distribute. But why just have a work session when you can have a party? And why just have a party when you can have a party with a purpose? Anyone who comes to a packing party at the Beauty Initiative will learn about period poverty, understand how they can play a part in addressing it, and (if we’ve done our job right) have so much fun that they want to come back. These are my tips for a party that will get the job done, while also building a community that’s ready to support you in your advocacy and fundraising effor
  5. 6 Myths About Periods: Busting the Taboos for a Healthier Conversation
    Mar 12, 2024 · original
Menstruation, despite being a natural and universal experience for half of the population, remains shrouded in myth and misinformation. These myths not only create unnecessary shame and anxiety surrounding periods but also limit participation in various activities and access to information. Let’s debunk six common myths and shed light on the facts about periods: Myth 1: Tampons Break Your Hymen Fact: The belief that tampons can impact virginity by affecting the hymen is a complete fallacy. The hymen is a thin membrane at the vaginal opening, which can stretch or tear through various activities, such as exercise or non-penetrative sexual activities. The use of tampons does not influence the hymen’s condition. Virginity is a concept not determined by the hymen’s state, debunking the myth that tampons and virginity are linked or that tampons can break your hymen. Myth 2: PMS & PMDD Are Not

  8. Everything You Need To Know About Period Underwear
    Jan 22, 2024 · original
What Is Period Underwear? In recent years, period underwear, also known as period panties, have emerged as a game-changer for women during their menstrual cycle. But what exactly are period underwear? Simply put, they’re a special type of underwear designed to be worn during menstruation as a substitute or supplement to traditional menstrual products like pads and tampons. Unlike regular underwear, period panties are crafted with extra layers of absorbent material that help to prevent leaks. These layers work together to trap and absorb menstrual blood, ensuring that you stay dry and comfortable. The absorbent layer is often thin and discreet, making period underwear look and feel just like your regular underwear. One of the key questions about period underwear is, “Do period panties work effectively?” The answer is yes . They are designed to hold menstrual blood for several hours, depen
  9. The Kwek Society provides supplies and teachings during moon time
    Nov 21, 2023 · original
By Eva Marie Carney, The Kwek Society Realizing the problem and forming the solution In 2017, I read a story about girls on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota missing school because they could not afford period supplies. I thought that this was something that only happened far away – in resource-poor countries. I was grateful that the story was shining a light on this horrific situation, and it woke up the feminist and activist in me. It was clear these students needed help. I decided to help them, and I suspected they were not the only Indigenous students needing help. After my research confirmed that “period poverty” is a problem across the United States, among Indigenous and non-Indigenous students, and that no group was addressing it among Native students, I felt obligated to help my Indigenous relatives and their classmates. That’s because I’m a dual citizen of the United St
