The All Stars Project (ASP) has launched a new Artistic Advisory Council to help shape the artistic vision and theatrical programming of Performance Lab (PLab), located at ASP’s re-opened West 42nd Street multi-theatre performance and youth development center in New York City. The Council brings together accomplished theatre artists and cultural leaders who will help guide the next chapter of artistic programming while strengthening the Center as a place where creativity, performance and community come together. Chaired by Gabrielle L. Kurlander—founder of Performance Lab and ASP’s Founding CEO (1989–2023)—the Council also includes Madelyn Chapman, Reynaldo Piniella and John Rankin III. Together, they will help shape artistic programming, support new creative initiatives and foster opportunities for theatre artists and young people to collaborate through performance. The All Stars Project is helping lead a major milestone for Dallas youth and families as a partner in the 30th Annual Dallas Mayor’s Back to School Fair, one of the city’s largest and longest-running civic initiatives. Hosted by the City of Dallas and powered by the All Stars Project and the Junior League of Dallas, the Fair serves more than 10,000 young people and their families each year, providing school supplies, health screenings and resources that help students start the school year ready to succeed. In just six months, over 1,000 young people have participated in career readiness workshops through the Dallas Works Program —and 220 students have completed paid summer internships with top organizations across Dallas. This spring, Dallas Works and the All Stars Project (ASP) reached an important milestone in partnership with the City of Dallas and Mayor Eric L. Johnson. Through the Dallas Works Summer Youth Employment Program, more than 1,000 students participated in career readiness workshops designed to open doors and prepare them for meaningful employment. On May 1, All Stars Project (ASP) CEO Chris Street hosted “The Dallas Advantage: Strengthening the Ecosystem of Workforce Development”, which brought 50 leaders together from across Dallas’ civic, corporate, and educational spheres. Generously sponsored by KPMG US, the summit was built around the idea that we need to break down silos between sectors, align systems, and—most importantly—put young people at the very center of our efforts. Our day began with opening remarks from Chris Street, ASP of Dallas Board Chair Kim Kesler (KPMG) and Dallas City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert, setting the stage for a series of panels and discussions. Johnson held a press conference on April 1, 2025, at City Hall to officially announce our new groundbreaking partnership and to unveil a bold transformation of the Dallas Works Summer Youth Employment Program. The City Hall flag room buzzed with energy as an impressive coalition of leaders took the stage. In a testament to the lasting impact of the All Stars Project (ASP), former program participant Dwayne Dixon Jr. has been named Program Director of ASP Chicago. His remarkable journey from youth participant to leader perfectly captures what’s possible when young people embrace the transformative power of performance-based development. Dwayne’s All Stars story began in 2011 as a student in the Development School for Youth in New Jersey. Like many young people in our programs, he discovered new possibilities through performance, eventually becoming a dynamic producer and emcee with the ASP of New Jersey All Stars Talent Show Network. What started as a program experience evolved into a calling – in 2015, Dwayne officially joined the ASP team as Youth Program and Outreach Leader.
