- Why CarbonCast Belongs at the Core of Precast Data Center Design
Aug 11, 2026 · original
As reliance on cloud storage, artificial intelligence, and streaming grows, data center designs require exterior wall systems that prioritize security, speed, and strict environmental control. CarbonCast High Performance Insulated Wall Panels deliver an ideal envelope solution tailored to these modern demands. Hardened Shell and Continuous Insulation Data center equipment generates tremendous internal heat, requiring heavy HVAC usage. CarbonCast panels utilize C-GRID® carbon fiber wythe connectors, virtually eliminating thermal bridging and unlocking continuous insulation values of R-20 or higher. This continuous thermal performance drastically reduces operational cooling costs and carbon footprint while mitigating condensation risks. Beyond energy savings, non-flammable precast concrete acts as a hardened barrier, offering superior protection against wind, seismic activity, moisture, an - Making the grade: Precast for student housing
Jul 13, 2026 · original
Modern higher education developments demand building solutions that reconcile high occupancy, strict deadlines, and tight operating budgets. CarbonCast High Performance Insulated Wall Panels have proven themselves as an ideal architectural solution for student housing projects, delivering performance across four critical criteria: Durability: As one of our front-line team members used to say: “A college student only tries to punch through a concrete wall once.” Dormitories undergo continuous heavy use. Precast concrete wythes provide extreme impact resistance, easily handling high-traffic student living while providing exceptional sound attenuation (STC ratings) between exterior environments and study spaces. Energy Savings: Using non-corrosive C-GRID carbon fiber grid ties instead of steel connectors, CarbonCast panels enable continuous insulation (c.i.) with zero thermal bridging. What material created the screen atop this building? It’s UHPC from our member company Spring Valley . This perforated gable panel now crowns The Twenty Two in New York City —an adaptive reuse project rooted in the original 1891 design by architect Robertson. More than 130 years later, the design from by BKSK Architects LLP has finally been realized through contemporary engineering and material innovation. Fabricated from CAAST UHPC , this perforated UHPC screen sits at the top of the structure—visually light, yet exceptionally strong and durable. Ultra-High Performance Concrete was selected because: – It enables extreme geometric precision, allowing for the intricate perforation pattern – It delivers exceptional strength at minimal thickness, reducing weight at the building’s highest elevation – Its durability ensures long-term performance in a demanding urban environment And importantl - Unlocking Superior Building Performance with CarbonCast: The Envelope-First Advantage
Apr 8, 2026 · original
As the global community increasingly prioritizes sustainability and resilience, the construction industry is undergoing a significant transformation. Builders and architects are shifting from focusing primarily on HVAC systems for thermal comfort towards optimizing a building’s structure itself. This strategy, known as the envelope-first approach, is key to achieving superior energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and long-term sustainability. Innovative building systems like AltusGroup’s CarbonCast High Performance Insulated Wall Panels exemplify the approach. The Power of the Envelope-First Approach The building envelope acts as the barrier between the interior and exterior environments. An envelope-first strategy prioritizes optimizing this barrier’s performance through high-quality materials and smart design. By reducing energy demand for heating and cooling from the outset, this appro - Best practices with concrete & contrast
Mar 12, 2026 · original
Concrete is not just gray. When it comes to contrast and color, there are four main components to work with: cement, aggregates, pigments, and surface treatment. Many factors influence the final color, including the type of cement, the size and color of aggregates, water content, mixing techniques, finishing methods, pigments, and surface treatment. While there are endless possibilities for working with color, it is important to keep things simple when designing with colored concrete. Concrete is a natural material, and its appearance can vary. One of the best practices in graphic concrete is to work with the natural color of the concrete itself. Our friends at Graphic Concrete share practical options and clear guidance for using color in concrete, especially useful when architects are making early material decisions. Jul 2, 2025 · original
Our newest self-paced continuing education course is live on AEC Daily . Architects have told us they value learning about product technologies through case histories. This course showcases over 15 precast projects in end-uses including education, data centers, multi-family residential and industrial. The course describes the makeup and cost efficiencies of composite precast panels, their benefits when made with carbon fiber grid shear trusses, and considerations for selecting among the insulation options. The majority of the course focuses on case studies of successful precast enclosure projects in a wide variety of building types across a range of markets. Earn 1.0 LU/HSW (AIA) as well as with 27 other associations in the U.S. and Canada. Feb 27, 2025 · original
CarbonCast High Performance Insulated Wall Panels , manufactured by AltusGroup precasters in North America, have had their evaluation report (ESR#2953) renewed by ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES), reaffirming that the CarbonCast wall panels meet code requirements. CarbonCast High Performance Insulated Wall Panels with C-GRID shear truss connectors and rigid foam insulation were tested in accordance with ICC-ES Acceptance Criteria AC-422. The accepted report, ESR#2953, was published first by ICC-ES in February 2014 and has been renewed yearly. Building officials, architects, contractors, specifiers, and designers utilize ICC-ES Evaluation Reports to provide a basis for using or approving products in construction projects under various ICC building codes . Many municipalities and building jurisdictions require an ICC-ESR certification before allowing use of a structural building product in - AltusGroup adds C-concrete as international affiliate to offer CarbonCast enclosure systems in Belgium
