- Welcome to the Appalachian Trail Season Kickoff!
Feb 3, 2025 · original
Welcome to the Appalachian Trail Season Kickoff! A.T. Gateways is Feb. 28 – Mar. 2, 2025. We’re hiking the first 8 miles with our thru-hiker friend. “Remote for detachment, narrow for chosen company, winding for leisure, lonely for contemplation, it beckons not merely north and south, but upward to the body, mind, and soul of man.” – Harold Allen, early A.T. planner and volunteer Book your lodging now for the A.T. Gateways annual event, February 28 through March 2, 2025, at Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge. The famous Amicalola Falls marks the beginning of the approach trail to Springer Mountain, the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail, a continuous footpath extending more than 2,000 miles to Mt. Katahdin, Maine. My wife and I are not thru-hikers, meaning people who walk the entire trail from south to north or vice versa. But we are big into hiking and love the terrain and views - Wild Scavenger Hunt

Wild Scavenger Hunt We connected with the beauty of Amicalola Falls State Park on a scavenger hunt as part of our association’s annual retreat. When our regional association sent an email invitation about the annual conference at Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge, I was excited! It’s a new destination for many of my colleagues, though I have visited there many times before. Part of my conference role was to create a scavenger hunt that would connect our group with natural discoveries – and plenty of exercise, too – since I am a little more familiar with the park. Check-In: My spouse and I settled into our lodge room with amazing views of the mountains. Amicalola Falls State Park is vast and beautiful. Just look at these lower Blue Ridge mountains stretching into the horizon for miles and miles. Day 1: During the day, we met onsite in several places. First, we took coffees out to the ter - Best Views of North Georgia

Georgia’s mountains have many beautiful views, but I’ll say that this park and lodge is where the views come to you! All. Day. Long. Let’s put it this way. You can bathe in the altitude of Amicalola Falls State Park where in the late fall, you’ll see fiery sunsets and flashy orange leaves drifting to the ground. It’s getting busier on the weekends in North Georgia as people are anxious to feel the apple-crisp weather and to hike before the frost settles in. Why not meet up with friends – middle of the week – at Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge? The rates are more affordable midweek, and the trails and scenic locati - Nature in Focus

Wild Scavenger Hunt Summer by the Waterfalls Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge keeps us cool with mountain lodge vibes and outrageously fun adventures! Last night, the sunset over the North Georgia mountains made the forested range change colors dramatically. Three of us – friends from college – are taking a mid-week summer vacation at Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge. As we sat outside on the stone patio by the fire pit and the day ended before our eyes, we seemed to feel more reflective. It’s not every day that such beautiful scenery surrounds me. The North Georgia Mountains are special, cooler in the hot Southern summers, and as unhurried as a beach town on the coast. Did you know? You can book a Sunset Dinner Package for two, with a discounted stay in the cozy lodge, dinner for two at Cascades Restaurant, and a bottle of House wine to enjoy while watching the sunset over the mount - Amicalola Visitor Center Rocks Out

Best Views of North Georgia Amicalola Visitor Center Rocks Out The new Amicalola Falls State Park Visitor Center offers Southern hospitality and a whole lot more for the 350,000 annual visitors to the park. A more than 50-year-old visitor center at Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge has been replaced. The new Center, which opened in late 2023, is a must-see for everyone who visits the park. It is refreshing to see how modern it is in its approach to ecology and natural history. Did you know? Amicalola Falls State Park is one of the Top 3 Most Visited Parks in Georgia because of its central feature: the highest cascading waterfall in the Southeast. I came to the park with friends the first weekend in March to experience the A.T. Winter is Wonderful in North Georgia With binoculars, birding scopes, field guides, and a free spirit, I am here in the North Georgia Mountains with my birding partner. We love this time of year! The long, dark nights and short days are starting to even out, day by day. This is the time of year when most people plan Spring Breaks. Me? I plan winter breaks to see wildlife when they’re hardest to see. As a former high school biology teacher and amateur photographer, this is my way of having a blast! We chose to hike and stay at Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge because of the appealing Winter Lodge Deal , which gave us 20% off double occupancy in a lodge room (through March; see select dates and terms). Here on the outskirts of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest we are in a hiker’s paradise with winding trails, wild rushing creeks and rivers and of course, the cascading Amicalola wa - Top 4 Ways to Chill in Fall

Just an hour north of Atlanta, you can be here. I’m a huge fan of Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge and while I can describe 100 ways to chill here, let’s go with Top 4. Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge is the place to stimulate all the senses as you witness the Southeast’s tallest cascading waterfall. A short, paved path leads to a boardwalk offering up-close views. For a tougher challenge, start from the bottom of the falls and hike up the staircase to the very top (or go down, either way provides plenty of up-close views and a little cardio to boot). Chill No. 1: Go Glamping Choose to relax at your glamping site with included amenities like bedding and furniture, a wood fire pit, hammocks, A/C and heat, power inside the large safari tent and picnic tables. Stay a while. Chill No. 2: Find Fall Color in North Georgia The Georgia State Parks Leaf Watch will help you determine the best - Wild Animals are Our Neighbors

Wild Animals are Our Neighbors Many critters live within the beautiful forests here in the southern tier of the Appalachian Mountain range. Wild animals are our neighbors, so as an avid hiker and camper, I assembled these helpful tips that are respectful of the animals’ spaces while providing you comfort and safety. It’s late in the summer season now, and during the day you are likely to encounter birds, squirrels and possibly deer. Most animals are reserving their energy for hunting later in the day, at night, or in the early morning. On the Appalachian trails, what if you encounter a coyote, fox, or black bear? Is that a dog? Wait, that’s a coyote! All wild animals want space from people unless they have been poorly conditioned to confront us for food. If you see a coyote, fox, raccoon, deer, or any other animal that frightens you or the kids, use these tips: Stay calm and do not run. - Waterfall Weddings in North Georgia Mountains

Waterfall Weddings in Georgia Mountains Say “I Do” with the mist of Amicalola Falls on the winds, or on a shaded wooden bridge over a stream with birdsong as your choir. Amicalola Falls is one of the biggest natural attractions in North Georgia. It holds the record for being one of the tallest cascading waterfalls east of the Mississippi River. If you’re like me, then you are all about the outdoors. I won’t be wearing a wedding gown that I am afraid will get soiled on my big day. I may even wear Birkenstocks, symbolic of the love of nature my fiancé and I share. Make an appointment to see the outdoor settings that Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge offers for both large and small ceremonies. If it rains or snows, you know you can go indoors. You can opt for outside wedding vows and hold a private dinner reception back at the Lodge. We are bringing the cake, our own flowers and bouquets,
