  1. Statement from Bishop of Sheffield following the retrial of Chris Brain
    Oct 2, 2026 · original
Chris Brain has today been found guilty on all remaining charges, following a retrial on the five charges the jury could not agree on in his original trial in 2025. Brain was convicted in August 2025 of 17 counts of indecent assault against nine women who were members of the Nine O’Clock Service in Sheffield. This retrial concerned the charge of rape, and four further counts of indecent assault, on which the original jury could not reach a verdict. The Bishop of Sheffield, Dr Pete Wilcox, said: “My first thoughts today are with the women whose courage brought this retrial to a conclusion. They have now given evidence, in full, not once but twice. It is unfortunate that that was necessary, and I am acutely conscious of the cost it has had for them. I am also conscious of the distress experienced by many others who have not been part of the criminal proceedings. “Last year I offered an unr
  2. Bishop of Salisbury suspended from ministry
    Oct 2, 2026 · original
The two complaints brought against the Bishop of Salisbury, Stephen Lake, under the Clergy Discipline Measure, will now proceed to the next stage and Bishop Stephen has been asked to respond to the allegations. He has been suspended from ministry by the Archbishop of Canterbury. Suspension is a neutral act while the allegations are progressed under the Clergy Discipline Measure 2003. The complaints were brought following allegations of financial misconduct and concerns raised with the National Safeguarding Team relating to his conduct.
  3. Statement from Kris McDaniel of C4SO over 2015 Eucharistic discipline comments
    Oct 2, 2026 · original
Dear Clergy, As we announced last week, the College of Bishops has unanimously consented to the Rev. Canon Dr. Kris McDaniel’s candidacy for Suffragan Bishop, allowing C4SO to proceed with his election at our Diocesan Convention on November 7. Four bishop examiners from other dioceses thoroughly interviewed Kris and heartily recommended him. If Kris is elected, the College will consider final consent in January. I am grateful for their initial affirmation and excited about this next step. I have known Kris for a long time. As many of you know, he is a seasoned leader with 25 years of faithful, fruitful ministry for the sake of others. He has served C4SO in various capacities, helping to raise up planters and launch new congregations. After working closely with him over the past year, I trust both his pastoral heart and his theological convictions. As you prepare to vote on November 7, I

  5. GAFCON Statement Concerning Inaccurate Reports in The Tablet
    Oct 1, 2026 · original
The Global Anglican Communion (Gafcon) wishes to correct inaccurate reports published by The Tablet concerning its General Secretary, the Rt Revd Paul Donison, and the Rt Revd Anthony Poggo, Secretary General of the Canterbury-based Anglican Communion Office. In March, The Tablet reported that Bishop Donison and Bishop Poggo had held “a series of discussions” prior to the G26 Conference in Abuja, seeking to avoid a split and find a compromise. This is incorrect. No such series of discussions took place. More recently, The Tablet reported that Bishop Donison had “continued to meet” Bishop Poggo, including at a meeting in August concerning reconciliation between the Global Anglican Communion and the Canterbury-led structures. This is also incorrect. No such meeting took place. Taken together, these reports create the false impression that Bishop Donison and Bishop Poggo have been engaged i
  6. Statement: Inaccuracies – The Tablet
    Oct 1, 2026 · original
On 25 September, The Tablet published an article about meetings between the Secretary General of the Anglican Communion, the Rt Revd Anthony Poggo and the Secretary General of GAFCON, the Rt Revd Paul Donison. It stated: ‘Gafcon’s secretary general Bishop Paul Donison has reportedly continued to meet Bishop Anthony Poggo, secretary general of the Anglican Communion, including at a meeting in August’ However, meetings suggested by The Tablet did not take place. Dialogue that seeks to build understanding and foster Christian unity is always important in the work of the Anglican Communion Office, as the official Secretariat to the Anglican Communion. In his role as Secretary General, Bishop Anthony Poggo does correspond with a variety of Anglican Member churches and other Anglican groups around the world, which at times has included representatives of GAFCON. In addition, the Anglican Commu
  7. Why We Voted “No”: A Reflection on the Process of Reunification Between the Diocese of Northern Indiana and the Diocese of Indianapolis
    Oct 1, 2026 · original
In the months since our Diocesan Convention voted not to pursue reunification with the Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis, many have asked why we entered into the conversation in the first place, what we have learned through the process, and why was the eventual vote and the 2025 Diocesan Convention a “no” vote. These are important questions, and they deserve a thoughtful response. Where It All Began In 2015, the Episcopal Church General Convention considered Resolution A100, which proposed requiring dioceses to assess their vitality and viability during periods of episcopal transition. While the resolution ultimately failed – largely because deputies and bishops were hesitant to impose such an institutional mandate – the underlying idea of intentional self-assessment gained wide support. Bishop Douglas Sparks and Bishop Jennifer Baskerville-Burrows believed that such discernment is best
  8. Bishop of Washington announces retirement
    Oct 1, 2026 · original
For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 Dear Friends of the Diocese of Washington, Blessings to you as we enter October. Next month marks the fifteenth anniversary of our shared ministry. I hope that you know that serving as your bishop is one of the great blessings of my life. I write today because I have discerned, in consultation with diocesan leadership and the Presiding Bishop’s office, that it is time to begin preparing for the election of your next bishop. I have not come to this decision lightly or alone, and it will not be easy to say goodbye to the diocese I love. The process, however, is only beginning. The election of your new diocesan bishop will take place at the regularly scheduled Diocesan Convention on January 29, 2028. The consecration and ordination will be on June 3, 2028, which is when my tenure as your bishop wi
  9. Statement from Archbishop John McDowell and Archbishop Eamon Martinon situation at Drumcree
    Oct 1, 2026 · original
As Archbishops and Pastors in our different Christian traditions, we have always taken seriously our call, in Christ, to speak and act together when we can. We do this because we share the conviction that the greatest commandment, and the greatest witness anyone can give to the Gospel in our world today, is in love of God and love of neighbour. As our community faces the crisis in Drumcree today, in which so many sincere views, painful histories and important issues are at stake, we cannot think of any time in the last thirty years when this simple message needs to be more urgently heard. How can we be good neighbours to each other? What can we do to patiently, constructively and positively build on all the sincere and generous efforts over recent years to foster mutual trust and understanding among our different traditions? Respect for the rule of law, and use of peaceful and democratic
  10. A pastoral word to The Episcopal Church from the September 2026 gathering of the House of Bishops
    Sep 30, 2026 · original
Dear People of God: Grace and peace to you in Jesus Christ our Lord. Introduction The bishops of The Episcopal Church gathered from Sept. 22-28, 2026, at Camp Allen Conference Center in Navasota, Texas. Our gathering included 118 bishops and bishops-elect, representing 93 dioceses and special ministries across 17 countries and territories. Mindful of the pressures and challenges facing our world and our church, we are grateful for this time set apart for spiritual renewal and focused work. We leave this meeting with deepened relationships and renewed commitments to the ministry we share in Jesus Christ. Reflections from our meeting Over the course of our meeting, we held in constant tension a clear-eyed look at the realities of the present and a persistent hope for the future. We received the latest draft of Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe’s strategic framework: Our Courageous Witness. This v
