- Young Australians first generation to go backwards
Aug 25, 2026 · original
Young Australians are at risk of becoming the first generation in modern Australia to be worse off than the one before them, according to a new report from Anglicare Australia. Falling Behind: Young People and Australia’s Growing Divide finds that younger Australians are earning less, owning less, carrying more debt, and being locked out of secure housing, with the impacts showing up in mental health and community services. Key findings include: Today’s young people are the first generation to earn less than the generation before them at the same age, and they’re still behind at 30 Young people are being forced to cut spending on both essentials and luxuries, while older people are increasing spending across the board Home ownership for 25-34 year-olds is below 40%, back to 1940s levels Not one of 48,776 rental listings was affordable for someone on Youth Allowance Young people are more - CHSP extension gives older Australians and their families welcome certainty
Aug 20, 2026 · original
Anglicare Australia has welcomed the Government’s decision to extend the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) until June 2029, saying it will give older Australians and their families certainty about the support they rely on. CHSP helps 830,000 older Australians with everyday things like meals, transport, cleaning, home maintenance, social support and health. “For hundreds of thousands of older Australians, CHSP is what helps them keep living safely and independently in their own homes,” said Anglicare Australia Executive Director Kasy Chambers. “It can mean getting a meal delivered, having help around the house, getting to an appointment, or simply staying connected to other people. “These services might seem small, but they can make an enormous difference. They also give families peace of mind that their parents and loved ones have support when they need it. “We especially welcome - Older Australians should not be left waiting for care

Anglicare Australia is calling on the Federal Government to urgently invest in reducing aged care wait times, as tonight’s Four Corners investigation exposes the consequences of leaving older Australians waiting for the support they need. Anglicare Australia Executive Director Kasy Chambers said The Waiting Game investigation shows an aged care system that is rationing support while older people and their families wait months for help. “Older Australians are being left waiting for the care they need. Many have their health worsen while they wait. Some are ending up in hospital. And tragically, some are dying before their care ever arrives. “For others, the new algorithm is failing to recognise the level of support they need. They are then forced to seek reviews, reassessments or make complaints while their health and wellbeing continue to worsen. “Older people should not have to fight th - Church providers unite to call for action on gambling advertising

Some of Australia’s largest church-based community service providers are joining forces to call on the Federal Government to take urgent action on gambling Some of Australia’s largest church-based community service providers are joining forces to call on the Federal Government to take urgent action on gambling advertising and gambling harm. Anglicare Australia, UnitingCare Australia, The Salvation Army and St Vincent de Paul Society say Australians are being saturated with gambling advertising, while frontline services are left dealing with the consequences. The organisations are calling for a package of reforms to reduce gambling harm, including: A phased ban on gambling advertising; Stronger regulation of online gambling, including a ban on inducements and promotions; A national gambling regulator with stronger enforcement powers; More funding for gambling harm support services; and Na - Every role matters on Aged Care Employee Day
Aug 7, 2026 · original
Anglicare Australia is marking Aged Care Employee Day by recognising the extraordinary contribution of the hundreds of thousands of Australians who work every day to support older people. Executive Director Kasy Chambers said Aged Care Employee Day was an opportunity to thank everyone who makes aged care possible. “Today is about recognising the people who dedicate their working lives to supporting older Australians with dignity, compassion and respect,” Ms Chambers said. “Quality aged care is a team effort. Our care workers and nurses deserve enormous recognition for the skilled and compassionate work they do every day – as do the cooks who prepare nutritious meals, cleaners who create safe and welcoming homes, gardeners who maintain beautiful outdoor spaces, drivers who help people stay connected to their communities, office staff who keep services running, allied health professionals, - Australians are ready for gambling reform. Parliament should finish the job

As Parliament prepares to debate gambling reform this week, Anglicare Australia is warning that the biggest protections against gambling harm remain missing. The call comes as Anglicare Australia releases a new paper on Gambling and Gambling Harm, outlining practical reforms to reduce harm and better protect people, families and communities. It calls for: A phased ban on gambling advertising; Stronger regulation of online gambling, including a ban on inducements and promotions; A national gambling regulator with stronger enforcement powers; More funding for gambling harm support services; and National leadership on mandatory cashless gaming systems for poker machines. Anglicare Australia Executive Director Kasy Chambers said gambling had become impossible to avoid, while governments had been far too slow to act. “Australians lose more money to gambling than people anywhere else in the wo - New Cost of Living Index shows JobSeeker recipients can’t afford basics
Jun 8, 2026 · original
Anglicare Australia is calling on the Federal Government to urgently raise the rate of JobSeeker and other income support payments, after new research found people on Centrelink payments cannot afford basic living costs. The 2026 Cost of Living Index finds that: – A single person on JobSeeker falls behind by $251 a week after paying for rent, food and transport – A single parent on Parenting Payment falls behind by $174 a week – A couple with two children on JobSeeker falls behind by $428 a week. “These figures show that Australia’s cost of living crisis is hitting people on the lowest incomes the hardest,” said Anglicare Australia Executive Director Kasy Chambers. “People aren’t literally spending hundreds of dollars more than they receive every week. They’re surviving by skipping meals, going without healthcare, living in unsuitable housing, relying on emergency relief, turning to unaf - Opposition should back tax reform to tackle housing inequality
May 14, 2026 · original
Anglicare Australia is calling on the Opposition to support the Federal Government’s tax reform package ahead of tonight’s Budget Reply, warning that Australia’s housing system is becoming increasingly unaffordable for renters and people trying to buy a home. The call comes as a new Anglicare Australia analysis, The Rental Divide , shows median rents are now unaffordable for households on median incomes in all but 10 federal electorates nationwide. Anglicare Australia Executive Director Kasy Chambers said the findings showed Australia could not continue relying on tax settings that encouraged speculative investment while locking more people out of secure housing. “Our analysis shows renters and first home buyers are being squeezed from both sides,” Ms Chambers said. “Renters are paying the price for a housing system increasingly driven by short-term speculative gains, while people trying - New Anglicare Australia analysis reveals deepening “Rental Divide” across Australia
May 13, 2026 · original
New analysis released today by Anglicare Australia has found that median rents are now unaffordable for households on the median income in all but 10 federal electorates across the country. The Rental Divide compares median rents against median household incomes in all 150 federal electorates and paints a stark picture of a housing crisis that is increasingly affecting ordinary working Australians. The analysis shows renters in many electorates are spending well above the commonly accepted affordability benchmark of 30 percent of income on housing, with some electorates recording median rents equivalent to 50, 60 or even nearly 70 percent of median household income. Anglicare Australia Executive Director Kasy Chambers said the findings demonstrated that Australia’s housing crisis had spread far beyond people on the lowest incomes. “This analysis shows the housing crisis is no longer some - Budget continues aged care reform, but key gaps remain

Anglicare Australia has welcomed continued funding for aged care reform in tonight’s Federal Budget, including support for the transition to the new aged care system and further funding for aged care worker pay rises. “Older Australians deserve a system built on dignity, quality and timely support. This Budget continues important funding for the transition to the new aged care system, and that continuity matters. Older people and providers alike need certainty as these major reforms are implemented,” said Anglicare Australia Executive Director Kasy Chambers. However, Ms Chambers said the Budget missed two critical opportunities to strengthen the transition to the new Support at Home system. “Anglicare Australia is disappointed that the Budget does not include an increase in the care management cap for Support at Home to at least 15 percent,” she said. “Care management is not an optional
