- One Year of a 4-Day Workweek: What We Learned, and What We Did After
Oct 4, 2026 · original
On April 1, 2025, ACE launched a one-year trial of a 4-day, 32-hour workweek. The trial has now concluded, every major success metric was met or exceeded, and our Board of Directors has approved a 32-hour week default as permanent policy. Here’s what we did, what we found, and why we think other organizations might want to consider it too. Why we tried this ACE’s guiding principles include seeking evidence, doing the most good we can, and being compassionate. So, when multiple people flagged the same idea within a few months of each other — that a shorter workweek might make us both more effective and more desirable to work for — we took it seriously enough to spend 40+ hours researching it before trialing it. The evidence we found was consistent and more positive than we expected. The UK’s national pilot , one of the earliest and largest trials of its kind, found a 71% drop in burnout a - Announcing our latest Movement Grants

We are excited to announce the latest Movement Grants recipients! We received an outstanding response from animal advocates worldwide. From hundreds of expressions of interest, we invited and assessed 74 full applications. After careful review, we are proud to award $1,132,573 in grants to 21 projects and organizations working to reduce animal suffering across the globe. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our generous donors, expert advisors, and all the applicants. Most importantly, we celebrate our successful grantees and the vital work they will be undertaking. Inspired by our latest grantees? Our Greatest Needs Fund is another way to support high-impact charities and advocates that reduce the suffering of some of the world’s most neglected animals. Much of the inspiring work highlighted below depends on grants from this fund. Donate to the Greatest Needs Funds Q2 2026 disbursement - Monthly Spotlight: Animetrics
Sep 24, 2026 · original
Founded by two economists, Animetrics helps animal advocacy groups make evidence-based decisions, and a major focus is closing a specific gap: the Global South and Muslim-majority contexts, where halal rules shape the food choices of nearly two billion people, roughly a quarter of the world’s population, yet remain largely understudied in animal advocacy. This month, we interviewed Fatma Sueda Evirgen and Gülbike Mirzaoğlu, co-founders of Animetrics, one of ACE’s Movement Grants recipients. Their model is demand-driven: they start with the decisions advocates are actually trying to make, produce rigorous, context-specific research, and stay involved to help turn findings into strategy. As they put it, the aim is “fewer important decisions being made by guesswork, especially in places where animals are numerous, the evidence base is thin, and advocates cannot afford to waste scarce resour - Movement Grants: Call for Applications and Introducing Our New Grants Manager

Movement Grants is open for applications Applications for our 12th round of Movement Grants are open now until October 18, 2026 (5 pm, PT). We are being much more specific about what we will and will not fund this round, so please read the updates below carefully before applying. If you have already sent us an expression of interest or full application that is still sitting with us, you do not need to do anything. We are reviewing these now, and everyone who submitted one will hear from us either way. If your work has significantly changed in scope since you submitted your expression of interest, you may reach out to us to clarify. Why we are being more specific The money available for effective animal advocacy is growing and concentrating at the same time. Some grantmakers are raising their minimum grant sizes, and some are narrowing their mandates to particular species, regions, or int - Better for Animals Recap

What does the evidence actually say about the many ways people try to help animals? Animal Charity Evaluators’ Better for Animals: Evidence-Based Insights for Effective Animal Advocacy resource is an ongoing project to answer it, in which we distill key research on different animal advocacy interventions to help us evaluate their impact in different contexts. We have made this research publicly available to support informed decision making about how to help the most animals. You may read more about the methodology in our recent announcement. This is a living document and we want to make it as helpful, accessible, and up-to-date as possible, so please feel free to reach out with feedback ! Aug 25, 2026 · original
This month, we spoke with Darleen Martinez, community and education coordinator at Plant Futures Initiative, an education and movement-building organization working toward more plant-forward food systems across Mexico and Latin America, and one of ACE’s Movement Grants recipients. Far more resources on plant-forward food systems and animal advocacy exist in English than in Spanish. Plant Futures set out to change that, and found the work was bigger than translation. What they discovered along the way shaped how they now think about an animal-inclusive world, food, culture, and the long-term work of building a movement. 1. Could you introduce the Plant Futures Initiative and the core problem your work is trying to solve? Jul 26, 2026 · original
Animal Ethics’ work now reaches audiences in 13 languages, available to more than half the world’s population. Its focus is on the neglected but high-impact corners of animal advocacy: wild animal suffering, future risks to animals including the impact of AI, and moral consideration for invertebrates. This month, we spoke with Aditya Karanam, outreach coordinator at Animal Ethics, one of ACE’s Movement Grants recipients. As he puts it, “an enormous number of sentient beings are suffering in ways the movement pays very little attention to, and wild animals are the clearest example.” A lot of these areas are counterintuitive, he says, which is part of why the movement overlooks them. How Animal Ethics measures impact, the challenges they face, and where they think advocates should be looking next is what we get into below. Could you introduce Animal Ethics and the core problem your work is - Monthly Spotlight: Asia Farming Solutions
Jun 28, 2026 · original
This month, we spoke with Castle Reynera, founder and executive director of Asia Farming Solutions, a nonprofit working to advance higher-welfare food systems across the Philippines, and one of ACE’s Movement Grants recipients. The Philippines is home to nearly 9 million pigs, around 70% of them raised on smallholder farms, but the welfare conditions facing breeding sows in smallholder farms across the Philippines remain almost entirely undocumented and largely absent from policy conversations. Asia Farming Solutions is working to change this by doing the harder, slower work of building evidence, trust, and locally grounded pathways for change. In this conversation, Castle shares what fieldwork across Philippine farms has revealed, why the aftermath of African Swine Fever created an unexpected window for reform, and what it really takes to advance animal welfare in contexts shaped by fin
