- Animal Outlook Relaunches Its Viral Factory Farming Ad With Vegan Influencer Jamie Logan
Aug 11, 2026 · original
There’s a particular honor in inheriting something that already worked. Animal Outlook’s “Side of Truth” ads have been running in one form or another for close to two decades, on MTV, Comedy Central, Hulu, YouTube, Animal Planet, and more, at a cost of less than two cents per view. It is one of the most effective tools our organization has ever had for getting people to see factory farming on their TV screen. Seventeen years ago, we created a commercial that ran for years across those networks, reaching millions of viewers. It made people stop and really look at what happens on factory farms. Some of them changed their minds about food for good. As one viewer wrote to us at the time: “I saw your commercial, visited your website, and it has really opened my eyes. How can such cruelty be allowed? I’m committed to going vegan, as I write this email to you.” Now, it’s back. Three weeks ago, Shahnawaz Ranch’s website was live with many offerings, including a “Choose Your Animal” page and a welcoming note about the family-run operation in Perris, California. Today, that page is gone. In its place is a short note about a temporary closure. That closure follows the Shahnawaz Ranch investigation Animal Outlook conducted inside the facility, which documented goats and sheep remaining conscious and struggling for up to three minutes after their throats were cut. Workers were also filmed dragging animals by their horns and legs, kicking a goat, and chasing terrified animals into fencing. The finish line at a full triathlon is not a place where people usually want to talk, but Animal Outlook Chapter Leader Al Biondi had other plans. It is a place full of athletes collapsed into lawn chairs, foil blankets, and the kind of silence that comes when muscles have given everything they have. Miles of swimming, biking, and running, stacked back to back, add up to one of the hardest single days a body can be asked to endure. Most finishers want exactly two things: a shower and a nap. Al Biondi wanted a third thing. Al crossed the finish line like everyone else that day, legs shaking, lungs burning, the whole grueling combination of swimming and running, on top of the bike leg, written into every step. And then, instead of collapsing into recovery, he reached into his gear bag and pulled out a stack of vegan protein bars. His Animal Outlook shirt, sleeves cut off to survive the hea - Leafleting at the FIFA World Cup

Another sporting event, another chance for vegan outreach by Animal Outlook supporters… As thousands of soccer fans poured into Atlanta for the FIFA World Cup, Chapter Leader Evan Thomas and a team of volunteers seized the moment. Positioned along busy walkways, they handed Animal Outlook’s vegan leaflets directly to tourists and fans—many even reaching out to take one as they passed. In the middle of the excitement, the team offered a pause for reflection, giving people from around the world something meaningful to consider during the tournament. Vegan jerky at a Baconfest? You bet. Last weekend, our volunteer Kristine hit the streets of Kelseyville, CA for Baconfest. Over the course of a few hours, she handed out roughly 200 samples of plant-based jerky to curious festival-goers, and the feedback said it all. One man tried a piece and told Kristine: “If you wouldn’t have told us, I would have never known it was vegan.” But the moment that really stuck? A woman stopped by and shared that she’d gone plant-based three years ago after losing her husband to heart disease. She said she was glad to see alternatives at an event like this. That’s the kind of conversation that reminds us why this work matters. People asked where they could buy it. They took pamphlets, stickers, and magazines. They asked questions. Even a vegan attendee — who admitted she wasn’t expecting much at a meat-themed event — was glad something was there for her ( - Manning Beef Permanently Closed

Monday night, the Pico Rivera Planning Commission voted unanimously to permanently revoke planning permission for the Manning Beef slaughterhouse—ensuring that LA County’s last cow slaughterhouse will never reopen. This is a monumental win for animals, for the community, and for everyone who refuses to accept cruelty as business as usual. More than a dozen Animal Outlook supporters gathered outside City Hall before the meeting, rallying together before packing the commission room to capacity. The energy was powerful, the message was clear, and the commissioners listened. Manning Beef’s owner pleaded with the commission to reconsider. Three of their lawyers argued that the commission didn’t have the authority to revoke the permit. But the commissioners saw through the legal maneuvering and stood firm. When the vote came, it was unanimous among all members present. Our Director of Investig - Manning Beef Road to Victory

Jun 17, 2026 · original
For many people, eggs are an everyday staple — something that rarely invites a second thought. But behind this habit is a reality that most consumers haven’t heard about. Every year in the United States, the egg industry kills about 350 million male chicks. The reason is simple and unsettling. Modern chickens have been selectively bred for two entirely different purposes. Some are designed to grow quickly to produce large amounts of meat. Others are bred to lay as many eggs as possible. Male chicks born into the egg industry don’t fit either category. They don’t lay eggs, and they don’t grow fast enough to be profitable for meat production. From an industry perspective, they are considered economically useless. So what happens to them? Shortly after hatching, they are “ culled .” This is the industry term for killing animals deemed unprofitable. The most common method for killing male ch - Farm Transitions team in Southeast Alabama

Last week, our Farm Transitions team traveled to Southeast Alabama, the birthplace of our program, and it felt like coming home. We had the privilege of visiting the new HudsonAlpha Wiregrass Innovation Center, where we introduced Maeve, our Bill Ferguson Legacy Fellow, to the team that helped make our first farm transition possible. Two of HudsonAlpha’s summer interns joined us for a farm tour, giving us the chance to share more about Animal Outlook’s Farm Transitions program and the incredible journey that Riley Creek Farms has been on. We also got an exciting glimpse into the future—a research project underway on the farm to automate several of the hydroponic growing systems. The highlight of the visit was catching up with the family at Riley Creek Farms. Bill’s son-in-law, Brandon, walked Maeve through the technical aspects of their deep water cultivation system and showed her how th
