- Gas Safety Week 2026: Keeping Safety at the heart of a changing industry
Sep 8, 2026 · original
Gas Safety Week 2026 takes place from 14–20 September, bringing the plumbing and heating industry together to promote an essential message: gas safety saves lives. Gas Safety Week is an important annual campaign led by the Gas Safe Register, providing an opportunity for the industry to raise awareness of the importance of safe gas work and encourage homeowners, landlords and businesses to put safety first. But while Gas Safety Week gives us an opportunity to focus attention on the issue, gas safety is a responsibility that continues throughout the year. For professional plumbing and heating engineers, every installation, service, repair and safety check is an opportunity to protect customers, maintain high standards and ensure heating systems operate safely and efficiently. The ongoing risk of unsafe gas work The majority of professional gas engineers work to high standards, but unsafe a - APHC announces new partnership with Powered Now

Aug 3, 2026 · original
On 28th May 2026 a temporary change to our UKAS accreditation status was made. Following management changes that took place in 2025, APHC has been placed under a temporary suspension of its UKAS accreditation. The reasons behind our temporary suspension are administrative in nature and does not affect our technical competence or our ability to operate as a certification body. The competence of registered installers and the validity of certifications already issued are not at risk. We are continuing to support our members as normal. If you are currently certificated, you can continue to notify work as usual as this does not affect you. We have however, been unable to onboard new contractors or undertake surveillance visits whilst under suspension. Installers that are due site visits whilst we are under the suspension will have these deferred for a short period of time. Men working in the construction industry are three times more likely to die by suicide than the national average for men according to a study conducted by Mates in Mind. Suicide now kills more construction workers than falls every year, with 2 people working in construction losing their lives to suicide every day. In addition to this, 83% have experienced a mental health issue and 91% have felt overwhelmed. Working in the construction industry comes with a specific set of pressures for workers and as a male dominated industry this creates a culture which seems to stop workers from reaching out for help for their mental health. 56% of construction professionals work for organisation with no mental health policies in place which further adds to a stigma around mental health and prevents workers from discussing their problems. It is really important that employers and individuals realise th - Is a Plumbing and Heating Career AI Proof?
Jul 15, 2026 · original
For years, people have assumed that the safest careers lie behind desks and degrees, but in the age of artificial intelligence, that assumption is being challenged. In recent months, experts have been pointing to skilled trades, especially plumbing, as some of the most secure jobs for the future and among the last to be replaced by machines. Tradespeople, like plumbers, will be essential in building the infrastructure needed for technological expansion, growing the demand for this type of work. But as this work needs a physical skill, it remains difficult to automate. In addition to the cost of university education which continues to rise, we may find the conversation for future careers begins to change. Instead of focusing solely on academic pathways, many are weighing the pros and cons of higher education against vocational careers. Training organisations are already seeing the impact. - APHC Members Can Now Save an Average of 26% on Card and Payment Fees

Rising diesel prices are putting real pressure on van operators across businesses. With diesel now around 50p per litre higher than a year ago, filling a typical 80-litre van tank costs about £151 – roughly £40 more than this time last year. This isn’t just a driver issue, it’s a business cost challenge. But there are ways to ease the impact for members while building longer-term resilience. The current cost pressures are unlikely to ease quickly, but they do highlight an opportunity. By embedding more efficient driving and operational habits now, buying groups can help members build stronger, more cost-effective fleets for the long term.
