As the World Cup begins, it’s time for my tradition of predicting every match to pick an eventual winner. I have the semi-finals as France vs. Spain and Brazil vs. Portugal, with France beating Portugal in the final ⚽️ - The Movies I Watched in 2025 🍿

I watched 82 movies in 2025 (excluding rewatches), down from 119 in 2024. I’m setting myself a goal of getting that back over 100 for 2026. My home screen has changed a lot since I last posted it. I’m now back to using stock icons in their large size with automatic dark mode—although I wish Apple would allow for a 7th row above the dock. I use Ivory for both Mastodon and Bluesky—the only social media sites I remain active on. And I’ve switched to Apple Podcasts from Pocket Casts as I move away from Automattic’s products. - The Movies I Watched in 2024 🍿

Having migrated my site to Eleventy and used AI to automate the process , I can now create these end-of-year movie round-up posts much more easily. Here are the 119 movies that I watched in 2024—excluding any movies that I rewatched: Cobra 3 out of 5 stars Drive 4 out of 5 stars X 3 out of 5 stars Fast X 3 out of 5 stars Before Midnight 3 out of 5 stars Black Panther: Wakanda Forever 3 out of 5 stars The Wicker Man 3 out of 5 stars Avatar: The Way of Water 2 out of 5 stars Ambulance 3 out of 5 stars Somewhere in Time 3 out of 5 stars Luther: The Fallen Sun 3 out of 5 stars The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes 3 out of 5 stars The Killer 4 out of 5 stars Saltburn 3 out of 5 stars Anatomy of a Fall 5 out of 5 stars The Legacy 2 out of 5 stars Past Lives 4 out of 5 stars Miami Vice 3 out of 5 stars Career Opportunities 2 out of 5 stars Fair Play 3 out of 5 stars Doctor Sleep 3 - https://chrispederick.com/blog/2024/12-16/

According to Pocket Casts, my top five podcasts of 2024 were dominated by David Chen and The McElroys, who sandwiched my favorite, The Flop House - https://chrispederick.com/blog/2024/12-06/

I generally consider myself an “AI skeptic”, but I tried Windsurf last week and was blown away. I used it to help me write a script to automate my end-of-year movie round-up posts since Letterboxd does not provide a public API. The results (and experience) were both impressive and somewhat scary - https://chrispederick.com/blog/2024/12-03/

I changed my avatar background color to purple for Mastodon and blue for Bluesky so that I can more easily tell which account I’m looking at in Ivory - What Movies I Watched in 2023 🍿

It’s that time of year again when I look back on the movies I watched in 2023 and pick my favorite and least favorite. Wait…did I say 2023? Shouldn’t that be 2024? Well, I never got around to doing my 2023 post, and then I couldn’t write any blog posts while I migrated from WordPress to Eleventy (more on that in a future post). So here is my 2023 list! I excluded any movies that I rewatched, so these are the 57 movies that I watched for the first time in 2023: Sicario 4 out of 5 stars Enola Holmes 2 2 out of 5 stars Barbarian 4 out of 5 stars A Quiet Place Part II 4 out of 5 stars Uncharted 2 out of 5 stars Fast Times at Ridgemont High 3 out of 5 stars Magic Mike 3 out of 5 stars Magic Mike XXL 3 out of 5 stars Knock at the Cabin 3 out of 5 stars Fire of Love 4 out of 5 stars Creed 3 out of 5 stars Creed II 3 out of 5 stars The Sting 4 out of 5 stars L’Avventura 3 out of 5 stars Evil Dea - https://chrispederick.com/blog/2024/11-26/

Last week I launched an update to my site that migrated it from WordPress and custom PHP to Eleventy (and a tiny amount of custom PHP). I think I have all the kinks worked out now and plan to write a few posts about the process and how it’s all working - https://chrispederick.com/blog/2024/4215/

I’m actively working on a new version of Web Developer , and it’s a huge update. Initially it will be primarily under-the-hood changes combined with UI improvements and bug fixes, but it should set things up for new features and more frequent updates going forward. - https://chrispederick.com/blog/2023/4111/

I met Molly Holzschlag in person a few times when I was first starting out as a web developer. The only thing that matched how passionately she fought for the open web was her kindness and generosity to myself and others. RIP Molly, you will be sorely missed. - https://chrispederick.com/blog/2023/4103/

Google approved the new version of Web Developer, and it is once again available in the Chrome Web Store 🙌 - https://chrispederick.com/blog/2023/4101/

You may have noticed that Web Developer is no longer available in the Chrome Web Store. Google removed the extension because it was requesting a permission that it did not use. I have submitted a new version of the extension that does not request this unnecessary permission, but it is waiting for approval from Google. Hopefully that will be soon! - https://chrispederick.com/blog/2023/4031/

Ahead of a long flight this weekend, I just tried to borrow a book using the Libby app, only to find that my library card had expired a month ago. A librarian renewed my card via a 30-second online chat, and I could immediately borrow and download the book. Libraries are wonderful! 📚 - https://chrispederick.com/blog/2023/4019/

When I migrated to Readwise Reader, I imported over 1,500 items from Pocket that I had saved over a decade. A month later, and I have half that many items thanks to the improved reading interface and features that enable quick triaging, like keyboard shortcuts and custom filters - What Movies I Watched in 2022 🍿

I started using Letterboxd again this year to track the movies I watch. I signed up for a pro membership , primarily for the feature that filters your watchlist to show only the movies available on services that you subscribe to. Unfortunately, Letterboxd doesn’t have a public API. However, you can get an export of your data, and I wrote a hacky PHP script that processed my diary CSV and created this end-of-year round-up. I excluded any movies that I rewatched, so these are the 77 movies that I watched for the first time in 2022: Say Anything… 4 out of 5 stars It Chapter Two 2 out of 5 stars Eternals 3 out of 5 stars The House 3 out of 5 stars The Alpinist 3 out of 5 stars The Kid Detective 4 out of 5 stars Train to Busan 4 out of 5 stars Striking Distance 2 out of 5 stars Synchronic 3 out of 5 stars Jolt 2 out of 5 stars Gunpowder Milkshake 2 out of 5 stars Scream 3 3 out of 5 stars Scr - https://chrispederick.com/blog/2023/3999/

Starting 2023 with a new home screen using custom icons for everything - What I Read in 2021 & 2022 📚

My reading has dramatically slowed since I started working from home in 2020. Now that I no longer have a commute, I’m still trying to work out a good time in my day when I read. Therefore, unfortunately, I only read seven books across 2021 & 2022 combined: The Cat Owner’s Manual by David Brunner 4 out of 5 stars The Adventure Zone: Crystal Kingdom by Clint McElroy 5 out of 5 stars Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World by Cal Newport 4 out of 5 stars Winnie-The-Pooh by A.A. Milne 5 out of 5 stars Digital Minimalism: Choosing a Focused Life in a Noisy World by Cal Newport 3 out of 5 stars Transitions: Making Sense of Life’s Changes by William Bridges 1 out of 5 stars Make Time: How to Focus on What Matters Every Day by Jake Knapp 4 out of 5 stars From this brief list, these were my highlights: Favorite fiction book: Winnie-The-Pooh by A.A. I added a notice to Read Ruler that it is no longer maintained or supported and will not be accessible after May 1st, 2023. Reading time was previously added directly in Pocket anyway, and I’ve now fully moved to Readwise Reader.
